A unique bottle-built house in Hoi An, Vietnam, has captured the attention of locals and visitors alike. The two-story residence, constructed by Mr. Nguyen Hoang Linh, is an impressive sight to behold.
Mr. Linh’s dedication to this project is evident, as he meticulously collected tens of thousands of glass bottles to use as building materials.
The house, measuring 5 meters wide and 18 meters long, was designed and built by Mr. Linh himself, utilizing his experience as a construction worker. It features 3 bedrooms, 1 living room, a kitchen, and a rooftop terrace, all constructed using tens of thousands of glass bottles.
Construction on this one-of-a-kind home began in late 2006. Mr. Linh’s inspiration for using glass bottles as building materials came from witnessing the waste generated by local eateries.
Glass bottles were used to create walls, pillars, and staircases, showcasing a unique and innovative approach to construction.
As an experienced builder, Mr. Linh believed that using glass bottles as building materials would result in a durable structure while also contributing to environmental protection.
Mr. Linh collected the glass bottles, cleaned them, filled them with water, and sealed them shut. He then incorporated them into the construction, using mortar to build walls and arranging them vertically to create staircases and decorative elements throughout the house.
Mr. Linh’s resourcefulness and commitment to sustainability are evident in his choice to use discarded bottles as a unique building material.
According to Mr. Linh, filling the bottles with water provides insulation, keeping the house cool during the hot summer months and preventing breakage due to temperature changes.
The rooftop terrace, designed with glass bottles, offers a unique and captivating space.
Nestled next to the Cam Thanh coconut forest, the house is a one-of-a-kind attraction. Many admire the perseverance and dedication of its owner, who has been working on it for 18 years.
Mr. Linh shared that collecting enough glass bottles took time, and he could only work on the project during his days off. So far, he has used 13,000 bottles in the construction and estimates that he will need another 20,000 to complete the house according to his original design.
