“August Derivatives Trading Volume Reaches a Whopping 27.3 Trillion VND”

The derivatives stock market trading in August 2024 witnessed a notable surge compared to the previous month's performance.

The average trading volume of VN30 index futures contracts reached 213,127 contracts per session, a 3.43% increase, and the trading value (in notional contract terms) reached VND 27,299 billion per session, up 2% from the previous month. Notably, the trading session on August 5, 2024, witnessed the highest trading volume, reaching 367,590 contracts.

Foreign investors remained active in the derivatives market, with their trading volume accounting for 3.04% of the total market volume, a 0.66% increase compared to the previous month.

Brokerage companies’ trading activities decreased from the previous month, with their proprietary trading market share standing at 1.72% in August, down from 2.35% in July 2024.

The open interest (OI) on the last trading day of August stood at 51,500 contracts, a 12.12% decrease compared to the previous month. The trading session on August 8, 2024, recorded the highest open interest during the month, reaching 61,587 contracts.

There were still no transactions in the government bond futures contract product.

As of the end of August, the number of derivatives trading accounts exceeded 1.74 million, marking a 1.38% increase compared to the end of July 2024.
