The Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs Association has decided to provide emergency assistance of VND 2.9 billion to 10 northern provinces and cities affected by Typhoon No. 3 (international name Yagi) and subsequent floods. These include Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Phu Tho, Lang Son, and Hoa Binh.
The support fund is sourced from the Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs Association’s fund. This assistance will be distributed to the affected provinces through local young entrepreneur organizations in collaboration with provincial chapters of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Vietnam Youth Union, and other relevant agencies to provide timely support to affected communities.
The Association also calls upon young entrepreneurs and member businesses in other provinces and cities to contribute and provide support to help people in the northern provinces recover from this natural disaster, stabilize their lives, and resume production and business activities as soon as possible.
Showing solidarity with the affected communities, the Bao Viet Group has donated VND 5 billion to support those affected by Typhoon No. 3 through the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee.
As a subsidiary of the group, Bao Viet Insurance is actively coordinating loss assessment and compensation for the typhoon’s impact. As of September 10, 2024, Bao Viet Insurance has recorded a total of 437 claims related to Typhoon No. 3.
According to the company, “Our team of professional loss adjusters across affected and other areas has been mobilized to access the sites and assess the losses in a timely and efficient manner.”
Entrepreneurs are also contributing to the flood relief efforts. Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh, Chairman of NextTech, recently shared a successful transfer receipt to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee. This donation represents the support from his family.
Tiktoker Pham Thoai has also contributed VND 1 billion to support people in areas severely affected by Typhoon Yagi.
Additionally, major retailers are extending their support. Central Retail Vietnam has provided 10,000 essential goods packages (including a box of instant noodles and a box of bottled drinking water) to families impacted by the storm and floods, with a total cost of approximately VND 1.25 billion.
Long Chau Pharmacy has announced free medicine and first aid kits for flood-affected communities. The Gioi Di Dong, a retail system, is working with its suppliers to prepare 10,000 rice cookers as gifts for people in need in the severely affected areas, as shared by Mr. Doan Van Hieu Em, a member of their Board of Directors.
“Battered by Storms, Seafood Industry Aims to Stay Afloat and Reach $9.5 Billion Target”
The recent Typhoon No. 3 (Yagi) has taken a toll on the aquaculture industry in northern provinces such as Hai Phong and Quang Ninh, according to Nguyen Viet Thang, Chairman of the Vietnam Fisheries Society (VINAFIS). The storm has left extensive damage in its wake, and as a result, the fisheries sector is now facing an uphill battle to achieve its target of $9.5 billion in seafood exports by 2024.
