This afternoon, September 10th, many shelves in supermarkets and markets in Hanoi were temporarily emptied as residents stocked up on supplies due to concerns over potential flooding. The Ministry of Industry and Trade assured that there is no shortage of supplies.

Hanoi residents stock up on supplies ahead of potential flooding
According to a survey conducted from the early morning to 3 pm on September 10th, there was a constant stream of customers at Big C Thang Long supermarket.
The most in-demand items were food, vegetables, pork, beef, fish, and other perishables. Long queues formed at the checkout counters, and staff worked diligently to restock the shelves.
Due to the high number of shoppers, some fresh produce and food items were temporarily out of stock. Prices remained stable, with no significant increases observed.

Meat sections struggled to keep up with demand
A similar scenario played out at WinMart supermarkets in Hanoi, with customers snapping up vegetables, pork, and other perishables. Prices remained stable, with no sudden increases.
Additionally, at traditional markets in Hanoi, stalls selling vegetables, pork, and other perishables were quickly emptied due to the sudden surge in demand.

Vegetable sections left bare
Worryingly, due to fears of flooding, there were reports of customers rushing and even jostling to secure meat and vegetables at some traditional markets.
On September 10th, Mr. Bui Nguyen Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Domestic Market Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), assured that the supply of essential goods and their prices remain stable, with only minor increases in the prices of certain types of vegetables that are difficult to preserve.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade advised residents against hoarding and encouraged them to work together with authorities to manage the situation effectively.
“We urge residents to remain calm and cooperate with government agencies and authorities in mitigating the impact of the floods. Stock up on essential goods, but avoid excessive hoarding, especially in areas severely affected by the storm,” advised the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Mr. Ha Long Thanh, Director of WinEco’s production operations, shared that they have implemented a plan to harvest, transport, and distribute agricultural produce from the South to the North to address the shortage of vegetables and other produce caused by the natural disaster.
As a result, hundreds of tons of essential vegetables and produce are being transported daily from the South and Lam Dong province to the North, helping to stabilize supply and prices for Northern consumers in the aftermath of Storm Yagi,” Mr. Thanh added.
