Following the introduction of the iPhone 16, Apple is expected to discontinue several older iPhone models, a move that reflects the company’s typical business strategy in recent years.

At midnight on September 10th (Vietnam time), Apple’s biggest event of the year, titled “It’s Glowtime,” will take place. This is when the latest products, including the iPhone 16 series with four models: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, will be officially unveiled to global consumers.

The launch event for Apple’s iPhone 16 series is just around the corner.

Along with the introduction of new products, Apple also plans to phase out some older models that no longer meet market demands to make way for the new devices and boost sales.

Many experts predict that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be among the models discontinued after the launch of the new iPhone generation, following in the footsteps of the iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro.

The predecessor models, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, are likely to be “retired” by Apple.

According to Economic Times, Apple may also discontinue the iPhone 14 Plus, which was released in 2022 and intended to replace the iPhone 13 Mini but failed to meet sales expectations.

Additionally, another product that is likely to be on the chopping block when the iPhone 16 arrives is the iPhone 13. This suggests that the iPhone 14 could become the new flagship model, taking over the current position of the iPhone 13.

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 Plus models may also be on the list for discontinuation.

Currently, at retail outlets, the prices of previously released iPhone models have seen significant discounts. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are now priced at 24.5 million VND and 28.9 million VND, respectively, while the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 Plus are available starting from 13.7 million VND and 17 million VND, respectively.

However, it’s important to note that discontinuing a particular iPhone model doesn’t mean it will completely disappear from the market. For instance, the iPhone 11 was discontinued in September 2022 but is still available in certain markets like Vietnam.

This strategy of discontinuing older products helps Apple simplify the purchasing process for consumers and prevent price competition between new and old models.
