On the evening of the 9th, the Yen Bai People’s Committee sent a dispatch to the National Committee for Incident, Disaster and Search and Rescue Response regarding the handling of two drifting barges on the Thao River (a main branch of the Red River).

Flood waters in the northern provinces are continuously rising.

At 6:30 pm on September 9th, Yen Bai province received a report of two barges that had broken loose and were drifting from China, expected to reach Lao Cai province by 10:30 pm that same day, and Yen Bai province by 11:30 pm.

According to the Yen Bai People’s Committee, there are currently eight bridges spanning the Thao River within their province. To ensure the safety of these bridges, Yen Bai has directed relevant units to consider measures to deal with the drifting barges.

However, due to a lack of necessary equipment and resources to tow the barges, the task exceeds Yen Bai’s capabilities. The People’s Committee has requested assistance from the National Committee, seeking support in terms of resources and equipment to handle the situation effectively.
