Vietnam Wafer JSC has just held its second annual general meeting for the 2024 financial year. At the meeting, the Company approved the election of new board members and the re-election of current members. Mr. Thomas George Forsberg, former global procurement director of IBM Corporation, is now officially the Chairman of the Board.
With over 35 years of experience, Mr. Thomas George Forsberg is an expert in developing and executing strategies to secure a stable supply of 200 and 300-mm silicon wafers for IBM’s semiconductor manufacturing processes.
Vietnam Wafer is the only company in Vietnam that provides semiconductor wafers to chip and solar panel manufacturers in the region.
Wafer, or silicon semiconductor, is the core physical component in semiconductor chip production. It serves as the canvas on which the chip’s constituent elements are etched. Wafer manufacturing, also known as wafer processing, is the first step in the chip manufacturing process.
Mr. Chau Hoang Long, Executive Director of Vietnam Wafer, cited data from Boston Consulting Group Vietnam (BCG) stating that the global semiconductor market is expected to grow by double digits in the coming years, reaching $1 trillion by 2030.
“Vietnam has key advantages to seize this opportunity with the involvement of stakeholders, attract investment, and develop a sustainable ecosystem,” he said.

Vietnam is exploring special mechanisms with attractive incentives for corporations, companies, especially technology companies, semiconductor, electronics, and chip industries. These are currently receiving the best incentives. This was affirmed by Mr. Do Thanh Trung – Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, at the regular Government press conference in April, which took place on the afternoon of May 4th.
