In a recent agreement, the Southern Economic Cooperative Union will take immediate delivery of 1,000 VinFast electric vehicles in September and October 2024, with the remaining cars to be delivered in coordination with GSM and VinFast in the last two months of the year.
These vehicles will be used by the Cooperative Union’s members to provide transportation services, replacing their current gasoline-powered fleet. The Union’s future goal is to go completely green, aiming to replace all of their members’ vehicles with electric cars, and invest in charging stations and infrastructure to meet the technical requirements for electric vehicle maintenance and repair.
With approximately 55,000 members, the Southern Economic Cooperative Union is one of the largest taxi driver unions in Vietnam. Recognizing the growing trend of electric vehicles and their economic, health, and environmental benefits, the Union has decided to encourage its members to go green by leasing and purchasing VinFast electric vehicles from GSM for their business operations. Currently, thousands of Union members are already using VinFast cars to provide services on various ride-hailing platforms, especially the Xanh SM Platform.
The Union will also offer practical financial solutions for drivers, assist with business registration on the Xanh SM Platform, and provide free vehicle management services for those using electric cars as part of the cooperative.
GSM Company and Cooperative Union leaders shake hands on their green transition partnership.
Mr. Tran Thanh Tuan, Chairman of the Cooperative Union, shared: “Guided by creativity and innovation, we constantly seek new approaches to meet the evolving needs of our customers and the global green trend. With GSM’s partnership and inspiration, the Union will serve as a bridge to expand the network of all-electric transportation to every cooperative and member, fostering the growth of a strong green alliance and maximizing positive economic and social impact.”
Attending the signing ceremony, Mr. Le Tan Luu, Chairman of the Binh Tan District Motorcycle and Technology Union, said: “We expect that the supportive policies and collaboration between the Union and GSM will create favorable conditions for workers to access better policies, safer and more efficient vehicle options, and improved livelihoods and social welfare for our drivers.”
The participation of one of Vietnam’s largest taxi driver unions in the green transition with GSM demonstrates the economic benefits and positive social impact of electric vehicles. This cooperation agreement also marks a significant shift in the technology taxi driver community’s awareness of the green transition and their determination to upgrade the quality, professionalism, and civility of public passenger transportation services.
