Overview of the digital transformation workshop between the Air Traffic Management Corporation of Vietnam and FPT Group.

The Air Traffic Management Corporation of Vietnam is a state-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Transport, entrusted by the Party and the State with the task of ensuring flight operations within the entire sovereign airspace and territorial waters of Vietnam, as well as at all civil airports and airfields nationwide.

According to Mr. Nguyen Cong Long, Director General of the Air Traffic Management Corporation of Vietnam, the corporation currently operates in five main fields: Air Traffic Management, Aeronautical Information Services, Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance, Search and Rescue, and Aeronautical Meteorological Services. However, its core service and the main mission entrusted by the Party and the State is air traffic control, specifically in the field of Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS). Therefore, the corporation aims to focus on digital transformation around CNS activities to enhance operational efficiency and ensure absolute information security and safety.

Aviation is one of the industries that utilize the most modern and advanced technologies and has been at the forefront of digital transformation since the beginning of the digital revolution. However, the rapid increase in commercial flights presents significant challenges to air traffic management organizations in terms of security and safety.

“Currently, we manage 36 international and 35 domestic air routes, including some of the busiest air routes in the world. Our mission is to ensure the absolute safety of every aircraft taking off and landing in Vietnamese airspace,” added Mr. Long, highlighting the challenging nature of VATM’s operations.

In this context, continuing the digital transformation journey is not just an option but a necessity to enhance safety standards and efficiency, especially for leading organizations such as the Air Traffic Management Corporation of Vietnam (VATM), which undertakes special political tasks and is responsible for national air traffic control and management.

Emphasizing the unique challenges faced by the industry and the desire to enhance information security through digital transformation, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, CEO of FPT Group, shared: “The field of operation of VATM is highly specialized and carries a significant political mission. From an enterprise governance perspective, FPT can accompany VATM in its digital transformation journey, helping to streamline business operations, ensure the safety of activities, and maintain the highest level of information security.”

Mr. Khoa offered his suggestions: “Both VATM and FPT have in common the fact that we integrated very early on. This integration has forced both enterprises to meet global requirements and standards, raising the quality bar for both companies. FPT is ready to learn and work alongside VATM to leverage digital transformation in solving complex professional challenges, ensuring information security, building a digital culture, and raising digital awareness among staff members. We can also apply AI solutions to increase labor productivity, reduce pressure on VATM’s resources, implement traffic coordination systems, paperless offices, IoT monitoring systems, data storage, and more. With our experience in cooperating and implementing solutions for customers in the aviation and logistics industries, combined with VATM’s professional knowledge and FPT’s comprehensive digital transformation success with global customers, we can jointly create new solutions and value.”

Mr. Le Hoang Minh, Chairman of the Board of Members of VATM, expressed his agreement with the FPT CEO and shared his desire for FPT and VATM to collaborate in enhancing technological capabilities and developing solutions to improve governance and security. “Currently, we are applying many advanced technologies in our air traffic management operations, from flight management to signal transmission and more. However, we rely on foreign technology providers. We hope that FPT can support us in developing technological equipment and solutions, either as a backup or even as a replacement, utilizing the capabilities of Vietnamese technology companies,” Mr. Minh said.

In addition, Mr. Ho Sy Tung, Deputy Director General of VATM, acknowledged FPT’s experience and technological capabilities and shared the leadership’s long-standing concern: “The most significant challenge in digital transformation is the human factor because, ultimately, it is people who will use and benefit from these technologies. How can we ensure that all our employees have a good understanding of digital transformation? We even have a dedicated training fund for this purpose. We hope that, in addition to implementing specific technology activities, FPT IS can support VATM in providing practical and comprehensive digital transformation training for our entire corporation.”

During the discussion, FPT experts shared their methodology, consulting and digital transformation implementation experience, and the ecosystem of FPT’s product solutions. Mr. Le Hung Cuong, Deputy General Director of FPT Digital, presented the FPT Digital Kaizen digital transformation methodology and the potential future outlook, which could bring about significant changes in airports, information technology infrastructure, and application solutions. He also emphasized the critical factors for success: a capable workforce and the establishment of a digital culture within the organization.
