In Vietnam’s F&B industry, Katinat, a cafe chain, has been gaining attention for its rapid expansion in prime locations in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. In Hanoi alone, Katinat Saigon Kafe opened its first store on Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Hoan Kiem District, in April 2023, and quickly expanded to 10 stores by September 2024.
The success of the Katinat chain is largely attributed to female entrepreneur Truong Nguyen Thien Kim. Ms. Kim, born in 1976 in Dalat, holds a Master’s degree in Finance, Monetary and Credit Circulation from the University of Economics in Ho Chi Minh City.
In 2007, she officially took on the role of Head of the Inspection Board of Phu Nhuan Jewelry Company (PNJ). She then held various senior management positions in well-known southern enterprises, including Dong A Bank Securities Company, Saigon-Cho Lon Real Estate Investment Joint Stock Company, Printing Company No. 2, and Gia Dinh Water Supply Joint Stock Company.
Ms. Truong Nguyen Thien Kim is also the wife of businessman To Hai, a member of the Board of Directors and CEO of Viet Capital Securities Joint Stock Company (VCI).
In late August, Ms. Kim registered to sell 13 million VCI shares to meet personal needs. The transaction was expected to take place from September 4 to October 3 through matching and/or agreement.
If the transaction is successful, Ms. Kim’s ownership in VCI will decrease from 5.17% to 2.18%. Currently, based on the closing price of VCI shares on September 12 at VND 33,690 per share, the value of Ms. Kim’s shares before the above transaction is approximately VND 768 billion.
According to the Semi-annual Governance Report of 2024 of Ben Thanh Trading Services Joint Stock Company (stock code: BTT) – where Ms. Truong Nguyen Thien Kim is an Independent Member of the Board of Directors, she is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of D1 Concepts Joint Stock Company; Member of the Board of Directors and General Director of Katinat Cafe Joint Stock Company; Member of the Board of Supervisors of Western Bus Station Joint Stock Company (code: WCS); Member of the Board of Directors of International Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (stock code: IDP); and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Phê La Joint Stock Company. As of June 30, 2024, Ms. Kim did not own any shares in these companies.
On September 12, the Katinat cafe chain announced that, wishing to contribute to the recovery efforts in Northern Vietnam, they would donate VND 1,000 from each drink sold between September 12 and September 30.
Accordingly, Katinat will proactively deduct this amount from their daily revenue, and the brand will not solicit additional donations from customers.
“All the money deducted will come from our desire to contribute to disaster relief for the people in the affected areas, and the amount will be publicly disclosed along with specific implementation plans in the next phases,” the cafe chain stated.
The Upcoming Blockbuster Stock Trades
After the upcoming 2nd of September holiday, key leaders, family members, and major shareholders of several prominent businesses are planning to sell and transfer substantial amounts of their stock holdings.
