The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Planning and Architecture recently announced the results of the architectural competition for the “Commercial and Service Complex in the Smart Complex at Functional Area No. 2a, Thu Thiem New Urban Area, Thu Duc City” (Lotte Eco Smart City), with Lotte Properties HCMC Company as the investor.
Accordingly, the design proposal with the code PA-02 by CallisonRTKL Inc. received the highest average score (87.33 points) and was unanimously chosen by the competition council as the optimal proposal. Based on the council’s conclusion, Lotte Properties HCMC Company has decided to approve the competition results.
The project for the commercial and service complex in the smart complex at Functional Area No. 2a, Thu Thiem New Urban Area, is developed by the Lotte Group. Previously, in July 2017, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and the Lotte Group signed an agreement to implement the project with a total investment of USD 900 million.
The project covers an area of approximately 5.01 hectares for the construction of commercial and multi-functional residential buildings with a total floor area of about 505,000 square meters. The highlight of the project is the 50-story Lotte Eco Smart City tower. In early September 2022, the project officially broke ground and now has an architectural design proposal, expected to be completed by 2028.
CallisonRTKL Inc., the company behind the highest-scoring design proposal, was formed by the merger of Callison and another Arcadis subsidiary in October 2015. Callison was an international architectural firm established by Tony Callison in 1975, growing to 900 employees worldwide before being acquired by Arcadis NV in 2014.
CallisonRTKL has designed numerous large shopping centers worldwide, including Brent Cross Shopping Center, Posnania Shopping Mall, Dubai Hills Mall, Paseo Interlomas, Siam Paragon, The HUB, and Lotte Center Ha Noi, among others.
