On the morning of September 12, Thu Duc City People’s Committee (Ho Chi Minh City) inaugurated the Long Phuoc Road project.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Director of the Project Management Unit for Investment Construction in Thu Duc City (investor), shared that the upgraded Long Phuoc Road is one of the key projects of Thu Duc City. It plays a crucial role in completing the local transportation network, connecting Long Phuoc and Long Binh wards, and catering to the growing travel demands of Long Phuoc island residents.
The project also contributes to the gradual completion of the transportation infrastructure as per the master plan, promoting urban development with residential areas, university clusters, and eco-tourism projects along the Dong Nai River. This, in turn, fuels the growth of Thu Duc City’s eastern gateway.
According to Mr. Tuan, the project is nearly 6 kilometers long and 12 meters wide, with the final section being 9 meters wide. The total investment is about VND 260 billion, including compensation, resettlement support of VND 95 billion, and construction costs of VND 107 billion.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phuoc, a local resident, shared that the Long Phuoc Road now provides a seamless connection from the Long Dai Bridge over the Tac River to Ward 7 in Long Phuoc Ward. This convenience has improved mobility for locals, shortening the journey between Long Phuoc and Long Binh wards and the center of Thu Duc City. Previously, they had to take a longer route via Truong Phuoc Bridge, Nguyen Xien Street, and Go Cong intersection.
The construction of the road began on December 22, 2017, but faced interruptions in 2019 due to land acquisition challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021 further delayed the land clearance process. However, in 2022, with the support of the affected community and the strong leadership of the Thu Duc City Party Committee and People’s Committee, the project was successfully restarted and completed as planned.
“The completion and operation of the Long Phuoc Road project will open up a new connection to the eastern gateway of Thu Duc City, significantly improving regional transportation. It will also help alleviate the increasing traffic burden in Thu Duc City,” said Mr. Tuan.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Mai Huu Quyet, Vice Chairman of the Thu Duc City People’s Committee, acknowledged that Thu Duc City is the country’s first city within a city model, boasting economic and transportation infrastructure advantages since its establishment.
However, he also pointed out that some areas, such as the former District 9, lack adequately invested infrastructure that fully meets the travel needs of the residents. Long Phuoc Road was among the roads that needed better connectivity. With its completion, the road has enhanced the quality of life for people in Long Phuoc Ward.
“In the future, Thu Duc City will strive to invest in modernizing the entire Long Phuoc Ward area, including the science and technology park, Long Thuan Road, and connections between Long Phuoc Road and Ring Road 3 of Ho Chi Minh City, as well as the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway,” said Mr. Quyet. He added that these efforts aim to stabilize and optimize transportation, serving the local people and promoting socio-economic development.
