Following the introduction of three electric vehicle models, including the Seal, Dolphin, and Atto 3, in July 2024, the BYD brand in Vietnam is looking to expand its product portfolio. Specifically, dealers have started taking deposits on three new all-electric models, with the highlight being the M6 MPV.

The BYD M6 is an all-electric MPV based on the Song Max platform, which has already been launched in Southeast Asian markets such as Indonesia and Thailand. Its dimensions are 4,710 x 1,810 x 1,690 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm.

As such, the BYD M6 will directly compete with rivals such as the Haima 7X-E, Toyota Innova Cross, and Hyundai Custin in the Vietnamese market.

The exterior of the BYD M6 is highlighted by its sharp front end with a pointed nose, low-set front grille, and a chrome strip bearing the BYD logo that connects the sleek twin-projector LED headlights. The front bumper incorporates a wide air intake and dragon-inspired headlights, creating a modern and dynamic appearance. At the rear, the LED taillights stretch across the width of the vehicle and are joined by a chrome strip, adding a touch of elegance.

In terms of interior configuration, the BYD M6 offers a choice of 6-seat (2+2+2) or 7-seat (2+3+2) layouts, with the rear seats capable of being folded down to create a spacious 580-liter luggage compartment.

The M6 comes equipped with a 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an automatic climate control system with PM2.5 air filtration.

Notable features of the BYD M6 include power-adjustable front seats, second-row seats adjustable via buttons, a 50:50 split-folding third-row seat, a wireless phone charging pad, and a 6-speaker sound system.

The vehicle also boasts a range of premium conveniences, such as an electronic gear selector, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof with a UV-blocking shade, and an electric tailgate.

Under the hood, the BYD M6 in Vietnam is powered by an electric motor that delivers 163 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque. Its 55.4 kWh lithium-ion battery offers an impressive range of 420 km on a single charge, based on the NEDC testing cycle. In Indonesia and Thailand, the M6 is also offered with a larger 71.8 kWh battery option, increasing the range to 530 km.

With the 55.4 kWh battery, the M6 supports both AC slow charging at 7 kW and DC fast charging at 115 kW, enabling a quick recharge from 10% to 80% in just 40 minutes.

The BYD M6 comes loaded with an extensive list of safety features, including hill start assist, electronic stability control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree camera system.

Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with six airbags, front and rear collision warning systems, lane-keeping assist, and a host of other advanced driver-assistance systems to ensure the safety of both the driver and passengers.

The pricing for the BYD M6 in Vietnam has not yet been announced. However, in Thailand, the vehicle is priced at 829,000 Baht (approximately 612 million VND). The introduction of the first all-electric MPV in the market is sure to spice up the competition in the MPV segment.

Aside from the M6, the other two models that are open for reservations, the BYD Han sedan and the BYD Tang 7-seater SUV, are also generating buzz. These models are expected to be launched in the Vietnamese market in the fourth quarter of this year, likely in October.
