The figures represent a 13% decrease from July 2024 but a 12% increase from the same period last year.

According to VAMA, the sales performance of many car brands in August 2024 did not meet expectations due to the government’s delay in approving the reduction of registration fees at that time. However, from September 1st, the government’s approval of a 50% reduction in registration fees for domestically assembled cars, along with businesses’ stimulus efforts, is expected to boost the car market.

The Xforce model topped sales for two consecutive months

VAMA shared that the SUV Xforce by Mitsubishi maintained its leading position in sales for the past two months, with 2,504 units sold in August (1,748 units in July).

Following closely in second place was the Ford Ranger pickup truck with 1,274 units sold, matching its July performance.

Other models with sales exceeding 1,000 units include: Mazda CX-5 (1,070 units), Toyota Vios (1,010 units), and Mitsubishi Xpander (1,003 units).

August also saw a significant dip in sales for several popular models. For instance, the Toyota Yaris Cross sold 1,278 units in July but only 807 units in August.

Toyota faced sales declines across other models as well: Vios dropped by 735 units to 1,010; Toyota Veloz decreased by 228 units to 538; and Toyota City experienced a sharp decline of 323 units, selling only 421 cars.

Ford also witnessed a sales decline with the Ford Territory, selling 576 units, 161 less than the previous month.

Models that consistently rank low in sales further decreased in August. Notably, the Honda Accord sold only 3 cars, a decrease of 3 units compared to July.

The Suzuki XL7 experienced a significant drop, selling only 13 units in August, 7 less than the previous month. Toyota’s Alphard model sold 9 units in August, down from 18 in July…

Kia’s small car model, the Kia Morning, is also notably absent from VAMA’s sales statistics for the brand.

The remaining A-segment models posted modest sales figures: Toyota Wigo sold 200 units, and Hyundai i10 sold 310 units, a substantial drop of 90 units from July.
