A group of self-proclaimed fans, calling themselves the “passionate team sharing games with the world”, have announced their acquisition of Flappy Bird, the iconic mobile game that its creator took down less than a year after its release. Now, the “Flappy Bird Foundation” is set to re-release the game on Android and iOS in 2025.

However, it is unclear whether Nguyen Ha Dong, the author of Flappy Bird, is involved in this re-release. Multiple media outlets have reached out to Nguyen Ha Dong for comment but have not received an immediate response.

According to the Flappy Bird Foundation, they acquired the rights to the game from Gametech, LLC, a company with no known affiliation with Nguyen Ha Dong. The enigmatic announcement about the game on Telegram was shared by “Digital AssetNews”, a channel with some ties to cryptocurrency.

This new version of Flappy Bird will retain the addictive elements of the original while introducing new features to keep players engaged. Users will have additional characters to choose from and various game modes to explore.

Players can test their skills in “Think You Got Game?”, a basketball-themed challenge, or face off against others in Rivals, a battle royale mode. For those who found the original too challenging, EZ Mode offers an easier practice mode to help build their skills.

This comeback is not just for mobile gamers, as Flappy Bird will also be available on web browsers and desktop computers. Flappy Bird 2.0 is expected to launch in late 2025 on iOS and Android, with an earlier release on web platforms this autumn.
