In a conversation with the press, Mr. Tran Trong Thong, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Bao Yen District, Lao Cai Province, shared that after discussions with the affected families, it was agreed that 25 households were in urgent need of temporary housing, while 10 others could stay with their relatives.
On the morning of September 15th, the local authorities instructed construction units to start land leveling immediately, determined to expedite the building of temporary homes for the families to stabilize their lives.
Mr. Thong also mentioned that once the leveling is complete, they will proceed with concrete flooring and erect sheds with cement-tiled roofs. The construction is expected to be finished within 3 to 4 days.
In the afternoon of the same day, the People’s Committee of Lao Cai Province decided to select an area near Minh Duc, known as the Sim Hill, as the new resettlement area for 40 households from Lang Nu to rebuild their lives.
This 10-hectare site is located about 2 kilometers from their previous homes, ensuring safety from landslides, flash floods, and debris flows. It also offers convenient transportation, proximity to water sources, and easy access to the residents’ production areas. As soon as the resettlement plan was finalized, Bao Yen District commenced land surveying, compensation, and site clearance. So far, six households with agricultural land in the resettlement area have agreed to give up their land.
