Torrential rain and floods ravaged rural areas, submerging them in water and sweeping away homes, possessions, and the simple dreams of the people. Amid this devastation, efforts to support the flood-affected communities have been immense, spreading warmth and hope for a brighter tomorrow. Notably, the timely response and joint efforts of the banking sector have played a significant role in alleviating the pain and empowering the flood-affected people to rise again, leaving no one behind.

At the ceremony to support the people affected by the damages caused by Storm No. 3, Mr. Dao Minh Tu, Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, Permanent Vice Chairman of Vietnam Bank Association, presented a donation of VND 38.4 billion. On the same day, the Trade Union of the State Bank of Vietnam also launched a fundraising campaign among its members and employees to support the people affected by Storm No. 3. The amount of support for the flood-affected communities continues to grow with contributions from the officers and employees of the banking sector.

Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu expressed that the support from the banks and the entire banking sector aims to join hands with the Party and the State to provide additional resources to assist the flood-affected communities. This also affirms the sector’s leading role in social welfare activities.

Beyond direct financial support, the banking sector has also implemented practical programs to help people overcome the consequences of natural disasters and stabilize their lives. To assess the damages incurred by banks and customers due to Storm No. 3 in Quang Ninh province and Hai Phong city, a working group led by Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu visited Quang Ninh. Witnessing the devastation of floating fish cages, with none left intact, and the loss of seafood either swept away or dead in the cages, the working group was deeply saddened. Given the severe damages, the Deputy Governor instructed the credit institutions to promptly survey each affected customer, assess the extent of the damages, and understand their wishes and proposals.

“After the storm, it is the responsibility of the banking sector to share the difficulties,” emphasized the Deputy Governor. “At this point, banks should become a ‘crutch’ for businesses, not collecting debts by all means but showing responsibility and flexibility in sharing and creating favorable conditions for businesses to recover.” The Deputy Governor also requested that the branches use their authority to consider supporting customers by reducing interest rates and providing loans for them to resume production and business activities.

In the past period, in addition to cash support to share financial burdens, banks have proactively implemented solutions to assist customers in overcoming the consequences of Storm No. 3. A series of banks, including Vietcombank, Agribank, VPBank, and MSB, have decided to directly reduce lending interest rates by 0.5-1% per year for existing individual customers affected by Storm Yagi. In the coming time, the banks will promptly assess the overall damages of customers in the system and take appropriate supportive measures. For customers who have purchased insurance from the banks, the banks will expedite compensation to help people stabilize their lives as soon as possible…

The joint efforts of the banking sector carry not only material value but also great spiritual encouragement for the flood-affected people. It demonstrates the care and sharing of the community and society as a whole for those in unfortunate situations. With this support, the flood-affected people are empowered to overcome difficulties and gradually rebuild their lives.

However, the journey to overcome the consequences of floods and rains remains challenging. In addition to the active participation of the banking sector, there needs to be close coordination among agencies, sectors, and social organizations to accompany and support the flood-affected communities comprehensively and effectively throughout the reconstruction process.

While floods and rains may wash away homes and possessions, they cannot wash away the warmth of human kindness. With the joint efforts of the entire community, especially the timely support of the banking sector, no one will be left behind. We believe that the flood-affected people will soon overcome their difficulties, stabilize their lives, and look forward to a brighter future.
