The latest updates on the power grid restoration efforts in the northern provinces and cities severely affected by storms and floods, as provided by the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), indicate that the aftermath of Storm No. 3 brought heavy rains and flooding to 17 northern provinces (Yen Bai, Bac Giang, Lang Son, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Tuyen Quang, Bac Ninh, Bac Kan, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Vinh Phuc, Hung Yen, and Hai Duong). This resulted in power outages for numerous customers.

In addition to the damage caused to the power grid, there were many areas where deep floodwaters necessitated temporary disconnection from the power supply to ensure customer safety.

With the urgent and tremendous efforts of the units under the Northern Power Corporation, by the morning of September 16, 1,626 out of 1,678 affected medium-voltage lines had been restored. Simultaneously, power supply was restored to more than 5.98 million customers out of approximately 6.1 million affected by the storm and floods (equivalent to 98%).

Currently, the Northern Power units are expediting the mobilization of human resources, equipment, and materials to mitigate the consequences of the natural disaster and restore power to the affected customers as soon as possible while adhering to safety requirements.

Deep flooding persists in many areas, hindering power restoration efforts in the affected localities.

To swiftly address the aftermath of the natural disaster and restore power to affected customers, the Central Power Corporation dispatched a total of 273 personnel (from six power companies, including Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai) to Quang Ninh Province. Additionally, the Hanoi Power Corporation sent a team of 100 people to provide support in power grid restoration.

Regarding the status of the high-voltage grid restoration, as of the morning of September 16, the 500kV grid had recovered from all 14 incidents, the 220kV grid had addressed 39 out of 40 incidents, and all 10 220kV transformer stations were restored. The 110kV grid had resolved 184 out of 190 incidents, and 101 out of 104 110kV transformer stations were back in operation.

According to the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), the 500kV line from Quang Trach to Pho Noi (commissioned on August 29, 2024) remained unaffected and sustained no significant damage from Storm No. 3 Yagi. The 500 kV lines that experienced disruptions due to the storm were mainly located in the provinces/cities of Quang Ninh and Hai Phong.

Concerning the operation of hydroelectric reservoirs, EVN stated that the northern hydroelectric reservoirs are currently discharging water through open spillways following the directives of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and the Provincial Steering Committees for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.

At present, the following hydroelectric reservoirs have closed all spillway gates as instructed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development: Lai Chau, Ban Chat, Huoi Quang, Son La, and Hoa Binh. The hydroelectric reservoirs discharging water through spillways as of 8:00 AM on September 16 are: Tuyen Quang (1 gate), Thac Ba (2 gates), Trung Son (3 gates), and Ban Ve (3 gates).
