The leader of the Vietnam Railway Corporation (VNR) reported that the company’s managed area from Yen Bai to Lao Cai experienced 47 flooding and landslides. All issues were promptly addressed with a sense of urgency, ensuring quick road access restoration.
Despite the impact of the storm and floods on their own families, the railway workers remained dedicated to their duties. They worked tirelessly to clear the tracks for cargo trains carrying relief goods from the southern provinces to support the affected communities in the northern regions.
At Km162 (Nga Quan commune, Tran Yen district, Yen Bai province), a 60-cm layer of mud covered a 1-kilometer section of the railway after the floodwaters receded. Yen Lao Railway Joint Stock Company mobilized its personnel to clear the tracks and restore the line.
In this area, railway workers from various locations, including gatekeepers, were deployed to shovel mud and debris off the railway, ensuring safe passage for trains.

According to Mr. Dang Sy Manh, Chairman of VNR, nearly 700 tons of relief goods are being transported by train from the South. If the route is reopened soon, the train will depart from Giap Bat station to the stations along the Yen Vien – Lao Cai line to deliver aid to the people in the storm- and flood-affected northern provinces.
Mr. Manh stated that this is only the first step in restoring the route. The railway will continue to inspect and assess the situation to develop a comprehensive repair plan.
On the same morning, at Song Than station (Binh Duong province), the railway sector transported nearly 200 tons of relief goods to the people affected by the storm and floods in the Northern provinces, after the Yen Vien – Lao Cai railway line was reopened.
Previously, due to the impact of Storm No. 3 and its circulation, the Hanoi-Lao Cai railway suffered severe damage. In addition to 15 locations with fallen trees, there were 20 deep flooding points and more than 45 landslides and erosions along the route, caused by strong water currents. Twelve cabinets of equipment for supervising level crossings with gatekeepers were damaged. At Yen Bai station, the rapid rise of water levels caused some equipment, such as communication devices, to be submerged.
