Vice Chairman of the Thanh Hoa People’s Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Thi, recently led a working group to inspect the progress of several projects in the Nghi Son Economic Zone. The group also discussed the selection of a site for the national reserve warehouse for crude oil and LNG storage.
After inspecting the sites proposed by the Management Board of Nghi Son Economic Zone and Industrial Zones of Thanh Hoa Province, and following discussions and agreements with relevant sectors, Mr. Thi proposed a site in Zone 6 (Nghi Son Economic Zone), covering an area of approximately 140 hectares, as the location for the national crude oil reserve warehouse. Additionally, a portion of Zone C (belonging to the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Project) will be included to align with the refinery’s development plans and facilitate the construction of its crude oil storage facility, utilizing enterprise capital or other legal sources.
Regarding the LNG reserve warehouse, Mr. Thi agreed with the Management Board of Nghi Son Economic Zone and Industrial Zones of Thanh Hoa Province to propose to the Ministry of Industry and Trade a site west of Me Island, spanning approximately 100 hectares. This location aligns with the orientation of the land and water planning of Thanh Hoa port and takes advantage of the potential of Nghi Son Deep Water Port to accommodate large-scale LNG carriers with a deadweight tonnage of 200,000 DWT.
Currently, there is one oil refinery in Thanh Hoa Province, the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Plant, with a crude oil processing capacity of 10 million tons per year, producing approximately 7.6 million tons of gasoline, oil, and other chemical products.
Additionally, there are six operational oil and gas warehouses in the province, with a total capacity of 753,860 cubic meters, and another five warehouses with a total capacity of 146,900 cubic meters that have been approved for construction.
