On September 16, the official McDonald’s fanpage announced the closure of McDonald’s Ben Thanh, one of the first McDonald’s restaurants in Vietnam, effective from 2 am on September 19, 2024.

The reason for the closure has not been disclosed by McDonald’s, and many users expressed their regret in the comments.
McDonald’s entered the Vietnamese market in February 2014 with its first branch located at 2-6 Bis Dien Bien Phu, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. McDonald’s Ben Thanh opened in May 2014, just three months after the debut of the first restaurant in Vietnam. It is located at 2-2A Tran Hung Dao, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, and spans three floors open 24 hours a day, with a total area of nearly 660 square meters and a capacity of about 260 seats.
With the closure of McDonald’s Ben Thanh, the fast-food chain now has 35 stores in Vietnam, located in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Binh Duong Province, Khanh Hoa Province, Da Nang City, Dong Nai Province, and Hai Phong City.
