Nhon Trach, a district in Dong Nai province, boasts a “golden location” with three sides bordering the Saigon River and a central position in the economic triangle of Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces. This strategic location presents significant potential for economic development.
Nhon Trach is renowned for its rapid industrial growth, ranking among the foremost in Dong Nai province. Starting with three industrial parks in 1997, the district now boasts nine operational industrial parks after more than 25 years of development.
In addition to its industrial prowess, Nhon Trach’s economic strength lies in its port system. Out of the three port areas in Dong Nai, two are located in Nhon Trach, making it the district with the most ports in the province. Among these, the Phuoc An Port stands out as the largest, spanning nearly 800 hectares and boasting a total investment of nearly VND 20,000 billion. It is expected to commence operations in Q3 2024.
The port area of Phuoc An Port covers 183 hectares, with a total berth length of 3,050 meters, including six container berths and four general berths capable of accommodating vessels with a capacity of 60,000 DWT. Once operational, the port will be able to simultaneously handle container and general cargo, catering to vessels ranging from 30,000 to 60,000 DWT.
With a capacity of 2.2 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) and 4 million tons of general cargo per year, Phuoc An Port will initially operate two berths starting in Q3 2024.
Adjacent to the port, the Phuoc An Port logistics service area spans 550 hectares and is planned to include warehouses, barge berths, and shuttle train stations to facilitate transportation and logistics services between Phuoc An Port and the industrial parks in Nhon Trach district, as well as the southern key economic region.
The operation of Phuoc An Port is anticipated to reduce transportation costs for businesses in the Nhon Trach area, as the route from the port directly serves ten industrial parks in the district. Additionally, the port provides advantages for enterprises in industrial parks in Long Thanh district, Bien Hoa city, and Thong Nhat district by shortening transportation distances compared to using Cat Lai or Cai Mep ports.
Furthermore, the transportation network surrounding Phuoc An Port, including Ring Road 3, Inter-port Road, and Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway, is being developed in tandem with the growth of industrial parks, export processing zones, warehouses, Long Thanh International Airport, and other seaports.
Recently, Decision No. 586/QD-TTg on the Dong Nai Provincial Planning for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision towards 2050, was approved. According to the approved plan, the overall goal is for Dong Nai to become a civilized and modern province with a high growth rate and a high-income level among the leading provinces in Vietnam by 2030.
In terms of constructing the region’s counties and cities, by 2030, Dong Nai is envisioned to comprise four cities, including the existing Bien Hoa and Long Khanh, along with the new additions of Long Thanh and Nhon Trach, one town (Trang Bom), and six rural districts.
As per the plan, Nhon Trach will evolve into a chain of high-tech industrial, service, and urban areas, boasting seamless infrastructure and logistics connections with the Cai Mep- Thi Vai seaport system, Phuoc An Port, and Ho Chi Minh City. Additionally, a service-tourism line will link Long Thanh International Port with the Can Gio Biosphere Reserve.
