According to reports from VAMA and Hyundai Thành Công, the total sales of the three hatchback A-segment models sold in Vietnam – the Hyundai Grand i10, Toyota Wigo, and Kia Morning – reached 548 units in August. The previous month, the total sales of these models only amounted to 685 units.
Looking at these somewhat dismal figures, many people further assert that urban A-segment cars are losing their foothold in the Vietnamese market. However, it seems they are forgetting about one model that is also competing in this price range: the VinFast VF 5 Plus.
According to an exclusive source, the sales of the VinFast VF 5 Plus in August reached approximately 2,000 units, out of a total of 6,000 vehicles sold by the Vietnamese brand. The month before, this model even achieved sales of up to 2,500 units, also according to the same source.
With these sales figures, the VinFast VF 5 Plus is capable of competing for the top spot in the market with any other model. The “king” of the market in the past month was the Mitsubishi XForce, with sales of over 2,500 units, while the second and third-placed models, the Ford Ranger and Mazda CX-5, sold only about 1,300 and 1,100 units respectively.
In reality, ever since its launch, the business community has recognized the VinFast VF 5 Plus as meeting many criteria to become a new “national car,” replacing the VinFast Fadil. In the initial phase after its introduction, the VF 5 Plus performed steadily but needed time for users to become familiar with the concept of electric vehicles.
After about a year on the market, the VF 5 Plus name is gaining a stronger foothold, especially after the “deciding blow” of offering one to two years of free charging for users under the program called “Mãnh Liệt Tinh Thần Việt Nam” (Vigorous Vietnamese Spirit) launched by Vingroup and VinFast, as well as the introduction of a new range of colors.
Not only young users and first-time car buyers are attracted to this model, but it is also increasingly gaining the trust of ride-hailing service drivers, a group of extremely important customers for models aiming to top the sales charts in the market.
More and more taxi companies, ride-hailing service drivers, and shared mobility services are opting for the VinFast VF 5 Plus, contributing to the model’s impressive sales performance in recent months.
The strong rise of the VF 5 Plus, along with the launch of the VF 3 mini SUV, is the basis for Mr. Phạm Nhật Vượng’s bold goal of making VinFast the top-selling brand in the Vietnamese market. In the last two months, VinFast has achieved this, based on sales figures revealed by an exclusive source.
With an engine output equivalent to 134 horsepower and 135 Nm of torque, the VF 5 outperforms all other models in its segment in terms of power. A range of over 300 km on a single charge and a 30-minute quick charge to reach about 70% battery also give vehicle owners peace of mind when it comes to charging, thanks to the impressive coverage of charging stations by the Vietnamese automaker.
This model also leads its segment in ADAS features, including cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, door opening warning, and emergency brake assist, among others.
Pricing is another advantage that makes the VF 5 Plus accessible to a large number of users. At this time, if you choose to buy the VF 5 Plus with steel wheels, you will pay 460 million VND for the battery leasing option and 540 million VND for the battery inclusion option.
Buyers will receive a support package worth 10 million VND, which can be converted to cash and free charging until June 30, 2025, equivalent to about 8 million VND.
For the aluminum wheel version, the respective prices for the battery leasing and inclusion options are 468 million VND and 548 million VND, still including the 18 million VND promotion.
Thus, if you choose the battery leasing option, the on-road price of the vehicle will still be below 500 million VND.
