Honda Activa EV, an electric version of the popular Activa scooter, is slated for launch in India in March 2025, according to local media reports. With a promising range, powerful engine, and modern features, this electric scooter is sure to make a splash.
Retaining the familiar Activa design, the EV model will feature some distinctive tweaks. Honda plans to equip the Activa EV with easily swappable batteries, making it convenient for riders to either swap batteries at charging stations or carry them home for charging.
A host of notable features are expected, including a mobile charging port, Bluetooth connectivity, a speedometer, an odometer, drum brakes, and single-channel ABS. The Activa EV is designed to impress with its performance, offering a range of up to 167 km on a single charge and a top speed of 78 km/h. Charging the scooter to full capacity takes a reasonable three hours.
With a starting price of 1 lakh Rs (approximately 27.5 million VND) in India, the Honda Activa EV will be offered in four color options. It will go head-to-head with competitors such as the Ather Rizta, Ola S1 X+, Bajaj Chetak, Hero Vida, and TVS iQube.
Honda has been strategizing to introduce electric scooters in India for several years. Initially, the plan involved converting the existing Activa model from internal combustion engine (ICE) to EV, but this idea was discarded as it fell short of Honda’s goal to be a leader in two-wheeler electrification.
Instead, Honda opted for a new electric platform for the Activa EV, aiming for superior range and performance. The Activa EV’s design incorporates aerodynamic principles and low drag to further enhance its range capabilities.
