During the meeting, the Lang Nu community unanimously agreed to the proposal of constructing a new settlement at Sim Hill, located near Minh Duc.
Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Lao Cai Province, instructed the units to commence work immediately on September 16, undertaking measurements, planning, compensation, and construction. He expressed determination to complete the project by December 31.
Chairman Truong also requested the community’s support during the construction process, encouraging their active participation to build a new Lang Nu that surpasses the beauty and unity of the old one.
Additionally, Mr. Truong mentioned that the new site could accommodate not only the households affected by the flash flood but also those currently residing in lower-lying areas.
The community plans to build houses following the traditional Tay architectural style and will conduct a lottery to allocate homes fairly and democratically once construction is complete.
Prior to this, on September 14, the People’s Committee of Bao Yen District held a meeting with the Lang Nu community to discuss the construction of a new resettlement area located 3km away.
Lang Nu, nestled at the foot of Voi Mountain, is home to 137 households and 760 ethnic Tay individuals who have lived there for generations.
