According to The Straits Times, this extravagant ice cream is the creation of Japanese gelato-maker Cellato. On its website, the brand refers to ‘Byakuya’ as a gelato, hinting at its Italian origins.

Each serving of Byakuya costs a staggering 880,000 yen (USD 6,398), or over 150 million VND. Its high price tag is due to its luxurious ingredients, which include edible gold leaves, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, and sake lees.

Moreover, it features the coveted white truffle from Alba, Italy, the most expensive mushroom in the world, often referred to as the “diamond of the kitchen.”

The world’s most expensive ice cream, made with exquisite ingredients, is priced at almost USD 6,400 per serving.

“It took us over a year and a half of trials and errors to develop the right flavor,” a spokesperson for Cellato told Guinness World Records.

The company’s mission is not just to create expensive desserts but to offer a culinary adventure that fuses European ingredients with traditional Japanese cuisine.

To achieve this, Cellato collaborated with Chef Tadayoshi Yamada of RiVi, a well-known Osaka restaurant renowned for its fusion of European and Japanese ingredients.

Diners are instructed to follow a meticulous process when indulging in this dessert to fully appreciate its flavors. They are guided to add the white truffle just as the ice cream begins to soften, mixing it with the provided handcrafted metal spoon.

For the best experience, diners are advised to let the dessert thaw at room temperature or microwave it at 500W for 10-20 seconds if it’s too hard. Additionally, Cellato recommends pairing this indulgent treat with sake or French white wine.

When delivering orders within Japan, Cellato ensures the ice cream is transported by air and kept frozen to maintain its flavor and quality.

For those who wish to indulge in a more affordable treat, Cellato also offers ‘Starry Night,’ a creation made with black truffles and chocolate, priced at 10,000 yen (USD 73).
