More than a week after the terrifying flash flood in Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province, in addition to the search for missing victims, stabilizing the housing situation for the affected households is also a pressing matter.

Since September 15, the authorities of Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province, have started the reconstruction process for the people of Lang Nu village by building a temporary housing area before the relocation site is completed. The temporary housing area is located about 1 km away from the old residential area of the Lang Nu people but still within the village. The entire temporary housing area has a land area of over 2,000 square meters that has been leveled. Each household in Lang Nu will be allocated a plot of land ranging from 50 to 60 square meters in size for temporary residence while waiting for the completion of the relocation site.

Temporary houses for the people of Lang Nu village are being urgently constructed.

The construction work is being rushed not only due to the time pressure but also because many Lang Nu villagers are eagerly awaiting their new homes. After the flash flood and landslide, the surviving villagers of Lang Nu are currently taking shelter in the community house and with relatives.

The People of Lang Nu Village Will Soon Have a New Place to Live

Currently, the foundation for the temporary houses of 25 households has been completed.

In a conversation with the press, Mr. Nguyen Van Nhat, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Bao Yen district, shared that the foundation for the temporary housing area, consisting of 25 houses for the people of Lang Nu village, has been completed. The People’s Committee of Bao Yen district has set a goal to strive to complete the temporary housing area and relocate all 25 households by Sunday (September 22). The temporary housing area, with basic living conditions ensured, will be the new home for the people of Lang Nu village while they wait for the completion of the relocation site.

We are doing our best to complete the work as soon as possible to stabilize the lives of the people of Lang Nu village,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Nhat.

The representative of the People’s Committee of Bao Yen district said that the total cost of building the temporary housing area for the people of Lang Nu village is 2 billion VND, funded by the VinGroup Corporation’s Thien Tam Fund.

Mr. Ly Minh Tuan, Director of the Thien Tam Fund of VinGroup Corporation, shared that the fund is currently deploying its staff to survey all families with casualties, collapsed houses, etc., to provide timely support. Especially for cases where all documents have been lost, the fund has coordinated with the provincial Party Committee and the People’s Committee of Bao Yen district to open new bank accounts for the families. Once the accounts are opened, the Thien Tam Fund will immediately transfer the support money.

Specifically, for Lang Nu village, the Thien Tam Fund has provided 2 billion VND for the urgent construction of a temporary housing area for the people. Currently, the foundation of this area has been completed, and it will be ready in just a few days. Although it is only a temporary residence, this soon-to-be-completed area will still have essential living conditions and the warmth of human kindness.

Although I have been to many places and met many people in difficult situations, when I arrived in Lang Nu village, my colleagues and I from the Thien Tam Fund were still deeply moved. Witnessing the devastation here, we could not help but be touched. We hope that the soon-to-be-completed temporary housing area will help the people here overcome their difficulties,” shared the Director of the Thien Tam Fund.

In the past few days, the Thien Tam Fund and many officers and employees of VinGroup have been participating in support activities for people in the flooded areas.

In Lao Cai, the Thien Tam Fund also sponsored essential goods, materials, and supplies worth nearly 500 million VND for on-site health care for mothers, newborns, and injured people in the flooded areas.

In addition to the emergency support of 250 billion VND, Vingroup Group has called on all employees across the system to join the Thien Tam Fund during their days off to directly participate in support activities for people affected by natural disasters. Companies within the ecosystem of the group have also proactively participated in relief efforts for the people since the first days of the flood in many provinces and cities.

On the afternoon of September 15, the People’s Committee of Lao Cai province decided to choose the sim hill near Minh Duc as the new relocation site for 40 households in Lang Nu village to rebuild their lives. This area covers 10 hectares (about 2 km from the old residential area) and allocates about 1,000 square meters per household. The site will include 40 two-story houses (8x12m) designed in the traditional stilt house style of the Tay people, each with auxiliary works such as kitchens and toilets.

The location of the relocation site not only ensures safety regarding landslides, flash floods, and landslides but is also convenient for transportation and close to water sources and production areas for the people.

The relocation site will be built with cultural houses, schools, and infrastructure such as roads, electricity, and water supply to ensure stable and long-term living conditions for the people. According to the direction of the General Secretary, President, and Prime Minister, the construction and reconstruction of Lang Nu village is a particularly important political task, and it is necessary to complete it before December 31, 2024.
