Vietnam Airlines is proud to announce the launch of a new direct route between Hanoi and Milan, operated by the wide-body Boeing 787 aircraft. This new route will offer three return flights per week, departing on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. From 2025 onwards, the airline also plans to introduce a direct route from Ho Chi Minh City to Milan.
With the addition of the Hanoi-Milan route, Vietnam Airlines now offers a total of nine direct routes to Europe. At present, the airline is the only Vietnamese carrier operating non-stop flights between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and key European cities such as Paris (France), Frankfurt (Germany), and London (UK). In early October, the airline will also inaugurate non-stop services between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Munich (Germany).
To celebrate the launch of this new route, Vietnam Airlines is offering promotional round-trip fares starting from just VND 14,800,000 (including taxes and fees) for journeys commencing between July 1, 2025, and July 31, 2025. For travel between August 1, 2025, and December 31, 2025, fares start at VND 17,325,000 (including taxes and fees). These special fares are available for bookings made from now until November 12, 2024, through the airline’s website www.vietnamairlines.com, mobile application, and official ticketing offices and agents.
Vietnam and Italy have enjoyed strong diplomatic relations for over 50 years (1973-2024) and have been strategic partners for 11 years (2013-2024). Vietnam is currently Italy’s largest trading partner in ASEAN, while Italy is Vietnam’s fourth-largest trading partner in the European Union, with bilateral trade continuing to grow year on year.
Italy is also considered a market with significant potential for Vietnamese aviation. In 2023, Italian visitor numbers to Vietnam reached 81,000, equivalent to 89% of pre-COVID-19 levels in 2019. In the first quarter of 2024, the number of Italian visitors to Vietnam surpassed pre-pandemic levels by 32%. Conversely, Italy is also becoming an increasingly popular destination for Vietnamese travelers.
Located in the heart of Europe, Milan is Italy’s second-largest city and is renowned as one of the world’s fashion capitals. Milan attracted 37,800 Vietnamese visitors in 2023, representing a 1.4% increase compared to 2019. In the first quarter of 2024, visitor numbers from Milan to Vietnam were 24% higher than in the same period in 2019.
Vietnam Airlines anticipates that the Milan route will appeal not only to passengers from Italy but also to those from neighboring European countries. The airline’s statistics indicate a positive recovery and growth trend in European routes post-pandemic.
By inaugurating this direct service to Italy, Vietnam Airlines reinforces its position as the national carrier while expanding its global network and offering diverse travel options to its customers. Moreover, the direct flight will significantly enhance socio-economic and political exchanges between Vietnam, Italy, and Europe.
