Police Investigate High-Interest Loan Scheme in Ho Chi Minh City
On September 19, the Binh Tan District Police Department in Ho Chi Minh City announced that they are investigating a case of “High-Interest Lending in Civil Transactions” involving a group of individuals, including Dang Thanh Son (born 2003, from Hai Phong), who operated from a luxury apartment in Binh Tan District.
The police have transferred the case file and four suspects to the authorities in Duc Hoa and Ben Luc districts in Long An province for further handling according to legal procedures.
During a raid on Son’s apartment on March 27, the police seized promotional flyers offering loans, as well as records of daily loan transactions.
According to the investigation, Son and his accomplices lent money to individuals with interest rates as high as 20% per month, with a loan term of 24 days. They also charged a service fee of 5%-10% on each loan.
When someone inquired about a loan, the group would collect their information and facilitate the disbursement of funds.
The Binh Tan District Police are urging anyone who has borrowed money from Dang Thanh Son or has any relevant information about the case to contact Officer Bui Thanh Liêm (phone: 0927.234205) to provide details about the loan and interest rates involved.
