On September 20, the Minister of Industry and Trade signed and issued an urgent directive to prepare for reserve supplies and essential goods to cope with the impact of Storm No. 4 (Soulik). The directive was sent to the Director of the Domestic Market Department, the Director General of the Market Management Department, and the Directors of the Departments of Industry and Trade of the provinces and cities of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang… and essential goods supply and distribution enterprises.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade requested the Departments of Industry and Trade of the provinces and cities to review the plan and scheme for the reserve and supply of goods, equipment, and essential commodities to meet the needs in case of natural disasters. This includes essential items such as food, beverages, gasoline, construction materials, etc. Urge goods distribution enterprises and supermarkets to strengthen the coordination of resources, concentrate resources to transport goods, and provide essential items in their distribution system in the central provinces. Prioritize supplying to areas affected by storms, floods, and local disruptions…

Actively bringing support programs to the people of the North and now the Central region, 19 Co.opmart supermarkets and 31 Co.op Food grocery stores in the Central region from Thanh Hoa to Binh Thuan provinces quickly increased their reserve of goods by three times compared to normal days. Reserve goods include rice, instant noodles, sugar, fish sauce, cooking oil, seasoning, and monosodium glutamate. In addition, there are also green vegetables, tubers, and various types of pork, beef, and chicken… Meanwhile, Saigon Co.op distribution centers nationwide plan to transport and regulate the flow of goods in time for the Central region.

Many enterprises have implemented non-profit sales programs for people and relief organizations in flooded areas.

From now until October 2, this supermarket system also organizes a promotion program called “Big Bag – Small Price”. The program offers discounts of up to 50% on more than 1,000 essential products such as laundry detergents, household cleaners, food, and products for newborns and babies, or buy-one-get-one-free offers.

In addition, with the spirit of “sharing and caring”, Saigon Co.op also implements the program “Non-profit goods for people and relief organizations in flooded areas”. Specifically, the unit prepares ready-to-eat nutritious meals and personal care bags for men and women at a price of only VND 30,000 – VND 100,000/set, including: bottled water, milk, sausages, rice cakes, toothbrushes, and toothpaste, personal items…

Similarly, the MM Mega Market system will add two more trips for vegetable and fruit transportation, equivalent to 10 tons, from Lam Dong to MM Mega Market Da Nang, and then continue to deliver goods to other distribution centers in the Central region. MM Mega Market commits to ensuring a full supply of fresh items such as meat and fish, including 12-15 tons of imported frozen items; with fresh items, the quantity is increased by three times compared to normal days at stabilized prices. MM Mega Market Vietnam said that charitable organizations in need of large quantities of goods for relief purposes will be offered the best discounts depending on the order.

These days, the BRG Mart supermarket system is also organizing a series of promotional programs offering discounts of up to 50% on hundreds of items. Specifically, the BRG supermarket system offers a discount of 26 – 30% on fruits, 14 – 37% on fresh food items such as pork, fish, and seafood… Up to 50% discount on drinking milk, coffee, oolong tea, Hảo Hảo noodles, and Chinsu fish sauce… Notably, the BRG system also deploys a buy-one-get-one program for fresh sausages, fish eggs, beef shanks, and shrimp…

Mr. Kaneda Hiroki, General Director of Acecook Vietnam, said that the company ensures the supply of goods to the market and commits to keeping the prices of products stable. “Understanding the severe impact of this storm, we continue to make efforts to support not only in terms of products but also financially to join hands in overcoming the consequences of storms and floods,” shared Mr. Kaneda Hiroki. Also according to Acecook Vietnam’s representative, agencies and units… in need of Acecook’s products such as instant noodles and pho to serve charitable activities in the Northern provinces, the company has a policy of selling at cost.

The representative of KIDO Group Joint Stock Company also said that the company has implemented a buy-2-get-1 program for any products for charitable delegations when buying products to support people in flooded areas. The program is expected to last until the end of September. Vietnam Livestock Technology Joint Stock Company (Vissan) has also implemented a policy of reducing prices by 5 – 20% for organizations and individuals in need of purchasing products to support people in the North and Central regions.

In addition to supporting selling prices, from September 11 up to now, many enterprises producing food and foodstuffs have continuously organized activities to present milk, cakes, water, instant noodles, and processed food… to provinces and cities heavily affected by storms and floods.

Currently, in the North, the price of green vegetables in many markets is two to three times higher than before Storm No. 3, which poses an urgent need to restore production areas. However, some large distribution systems with sales points in Hanoi and the Northern provinces said that the demand for goods, including vegetables, fruits, and fresh items in the Northern market, has cooled down compared to the peak last week. The systems have also reduced the amount of goods supplied to the North, now only 50% compared to the previous week.

Enterprises and supermarkets have concentrated resources to transport and supply essential goods in the Northern and Central provinces.

“The prices of items, especially vegetables and fruits, are kept stable. We firmly maintain price stability and require suppliers to coordinate in stabilizing prices to support consumers in this difficult period,” said Mr. Dinh Quang Khoi, Marketing Director of the MM Mega Market system. Another distribution system said that out of more than 240 vegetable and fruit codes being sold in the market, only 29 codes are being requested by suppliers in Lam Dong to increase prices. The reason for the price increase is completely objective and convincing, so the system is considering the time of application.

The Director of the Plant Protection Department requested that localities proactively inspect, drain, and clean up the fields, prepare land and seeds for planting with areas that cannot be recovered, giving priority to short-term leafy vegetables to promptly supply vegetables to the market at the end of the crop.” Depending on market demand and specific conditions, for now, we plant short-term and leafy vegetables. These types will be harvested in about 25-30 days,” said Mr. Cuong.
