On September 21st, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a conference of the Government’s Standing Committee, working with businesses on solutions to contribute to the country’s socio-economic development. Deputy Prime Ministers Tran Hong Ha, Le Thanh Long, and Ho Duc Phoc; leaders of ministries, sectors, and central agencies; and leaders of businesses, including Vin Group, Hoa Phat, Thaco, KN Holdings, Sun Group, T&T, Geleximco, Minh Phu, Masan, Sovico, TH Group, and REE, were in attendance.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the conference demonstrated the Party and State leaders’ interest in private enterprises, which contribute up to 45% of GDP, 40% of social investment capital, provide 85% of jobs, account for 35% of imports, and 25% of exports.
Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung assessed that some large private enterprises have become an important driving force for the economy. The total assets of the large enterprises participating in today’s conference are estimated at up to $70 billion as of the end of 2023. Considering that 2024 is a year of acceleration and breakthrough, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung proposed that the community of large enterprises “take the lead in pioneering major, challenging, and novel tasks” and “create development space for small and medium-sized enterprises in other fields.”
Sharing Minister Nguyen Chi Dung’s desire to pioneer major and challenging tasks, the enterprises proposed numerous solutions for socio-economic development and macroeconomic stability. Among the opinions and discussions at the conference, the representative of TH Group attracted attention with the proposal to build a School Nutrition Law and the strategy to develop the forest economy.
Proposal to Build a School Nutrition Law
“With the aspiration to contribute to improving the health and stature of Vietnamese people and our wealth of experience in this endeavor, TH Group proposes to build a separate law, named: School Nutrition Law,” said the Founder of TH Group at the conference.
Labor Hero Thai Huong analyzed that, in recent years, Vietnam has made significant achievements in improving the nutrition of its citizens, but there remain many nutritional issues, especially in the pre-school and school-age population. Currently, Vietnam is among the countries and territories with a low average height, ranking 15th from the bottom among countries and territories worldwide.
Fresh milk is a complete source of essential nutrients for the body. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 86% of a person’s height and physique develop by the age of 12. Therefore, investing in the physical and mental well-being of this golden age group is crucial to not missing out on precious developmental opportunities during the life course.
In many countries around the world, such as Japan, the School Nutrition Law has been in place since 1954, stipulating nutritional standards and food safety management for school meals. In Thailand, the government has issued standards for school lunches. And in Indonesia, the newly elected President has pledged to implement a Free Lunch Program for students starting in 2025,…
Given the existing issues in school nutrition and school meals, the proposal of Labor Hero Thai Huong and TH Group to build a School Nutrition Law is considered necessary, especially since it is also scientifically and practically grounded in well-established empirical research by agencies such as the National Institute of Nutrition and the Ministry of Education and Training,…
Notably, there is the “Model of School Meals Ensuring Reasonable Nutrition Combined with Enhanced Physical Activity for Children, Students, and Students” implemented by the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Health, and independent experts, referencing the practical experience of developed countries worldwide (Japan) in 2020-2021.
Based on the research and the scientifically proven results of the model, Ms. Thai Huong suggested that the School Nutrition Law needs to be built meticulously and carefully, encompassing multiple contents related to healthcare for children, students, and pupils.
Comprehensive Solution for Forest Economy Development
According to Labor Hero Thai Huong, we have extensive land areas, but the reality is that we have not utilized them effectively. Especially with the area of production forests, some forest areas belonging to state-owned (or equitized) forestry companies are being planted with low efficiency, mainly with acacia trees, yielding only about $7-8 million per hectare in a 5-7 year cycle.
She pointed out that Vietnamese forests have become depleted, and the risk of forest loss is very high. Therefore, the urgent task at hand is to plant more trees, which also contributes to the Net Zero target by 2050 that we have committed to internationally.
Ms. Thai Huong proposed two solutions to the government to address the current situation of forests and the forest economy. First, the state needs to allocate sufficient funds to assess the reality of forests, the operations of forestry companies, and the plan to allocate forest land to the people.
Second, there must be entrepreneurs and enterprises with sufficient Heart – Intelligence – Bravery to invest in and develop the forest economy, creating an environment and motivation to encourage farmers to advance in modern production. To attract these enterprises, the government should have policies suitable for each project and each period, helping the forest economy develop sustainably.
TH Group has implemented many projects to develop the forest economy in various localities and has sufficient experience to implement pilot projects. For example, in Tuan Giao – Dien Bien, TH has developed macadamia forests, moving towards deep processing and market search for the product. In the Central Highlands region, TH is also building a pilot project for the forest economy, including multi-layered tree planting, deep processing, and regional brand development. And in the next step, we will develop resorts, retirement homes, eco-tourism, and regional tourism in these forests,…
