On September 19, the Investigative Police Agency of the Hau Giang Provincial Public Security arrested and issued an indictment against Lam Si Tieng, a former contract employee of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Long My District, for “Violation of regulations on compensation, support, and resettlement when the State recovers land.”

Tieng’s wrongdoing, as determined by the investigating authorities, occurred between 2021 and 2023 while he was working at the Long My District’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment. During this period, he engaged in improper compensation and support practices, causing state budget losses of over VND 2 billion.

In March 2024, the Hau Giang Provincial Police’s Investigative Agency had initiated legal proceedings and detained Phan Viet Duc, former Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Vinh Vien Town, Long My District, in relation to this case.

The investigation is ongoing, with potential for further developments.
