Vice Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha’s visit to Lang Chanh district included a stop at Lam Phu Secondary School in Lam Phu commune, which was affected by flooding and landslides during construction. Currently, the school’s students and staff have temporarily relocated to Lam Phu Primary School, 7km away. The Vice Prime Minister commended the local government’s proactive and positive approach to disaster prevention, control, and recovery from the recent storms and their impacts.
“The central government will continue to support local efforts and address issues beyond the local capacity,” said the Vice Prime Minister. He emphasized their commitment to immediate action and restoring stability to the people’s lives, especially regarding essential social infrastructure such as transportation, education, and healthcare.


Earlier that morning, the Vice Prime Minister inspected the handling of the collapse of No Conduit in the left dike of the Ma River, Vinh An commune, Vinh Loc district. He commended the efforts of the military, police, self-defense forces, and local people in the early detection and timely dike protection, preventing impact on over 40,000 residents. He instructed the local government to promptly assess the entire dike’s resilience along the Ma River.



Later that day, Vice Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha visited and presented gifts to flooded households in Ngoc Bo village, Kim Tan town, Thach Thanh district. He instructed the district leaders to develop a plan for a resettlement area or build flood-resilient housing.

According to the leaders of Thanh Hoa province, since the beginning of September 2024, the province has been affected by two storms (storms No. 3 and No. 4) and several prolonged heavy rains, causing flooding in low-lying areas, riverbanks, and river beaches, as well as landslides in many locations.
The impact of storms No. 3 and No. 4, along with weather conditions that caused heavy rains from September 6 to 23, led to extensive flooding in Thanh Hoa province. The combination of local rainfall and upstream runoff resulted in flooding along the province’s rivers, inundating low-lying areas and causing landslides in multiple locations.
In September 2024, natural disasters in Thanh Hoa province resulted in one death and two injuries, with estimated damages of approximately 430 billion VND in agricultural production, education, transportation infrastructure, and other sectors. The province is still assessing the damages from the recent storm and ongoing flooding.
Thanh Hoa province has mobilized all available resources to support social security, restore production, and quickly repair damages to housing and critical infrastructure.

“In response to the challenging situation caused by heavy rains and floods, the authorities in Thanh Hoa province evacuated 1,200 households, totaling nearly 5,000 people, to safer locations. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has also issued an urgent directive to the province, instructing them to take immediate action to protect the dyke system from the rising waters of the Buoi, Ma, and Chu rivers.”
