According to the Government Portal, Ms. Tran Thi Thuy Linh from Ho Chi Minh City reflected that since June 12, 2024, banks have decided to allow people to buy gold only if they have registered for SJC gold online to reduce difficulties and long waits when buying gold.
However, according to Ms. Linh, this very same thing has caused difficulties for buyers. For more than a week, she has been monitoring the announcements and accessing the website promptly at 9 am to register for online gold purchases at four major banks, including Vietcombank, Agribank, BIDV, and VietinBank, but has not been successful even once. She has also registered at numerous branches of all four banks to no avail.
Ms. Linh requested that authorities look into this matter and come up with a solution so that people can buy gold at stabilized prices.
Since the beginning of June, customers have been able to register to buy SJC gold bars online through four commercial banks.
Regarding this issue, the State Bank of Vietnam stated that following the Government’s and Prime Minister’s directions on continuing to implement gold market management solutions, from June 3, the State Bank has organized the sale of SJC gold bars through four state-owned commercial banks and the Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) to directly sell gold bars to the people.
After a period of implementation, to limit crowds and prevent the phenomenon of hiring people to queue up and speculate on gold purchases at gold selling points, the four state-owned commercial banks and SJC implemented online gold sales registration.
Saigon Jewelry Company continues to sell gold bars directly at the announced locations.
“Customers can choose to buy gold according to the instructions provided by the four state-owned commercial banks and SJC,” said the State Bank of Vietnam.
Regarding the price of SJC gold bars, precious metals have surged in line with global markets in recent days, surpassing the 83 million VND/tael mark.
At 8 am on September 26, the buying and selling prices of SJC gold bars, as quoted by SJC, were VND 81.5 million/tael and VND 83.5 million/tael, respectively, the highest in a week.
