## Police Bust a Drug Trafficking Ring, Seizing a Large Haul of Drugs

On October 31, the Nghe An Provincial Police Department’s Drug Crime Investigation Division announced that they had coordinated with Hanoi City Police, Hanoi Customs, and Quynh Luu District Police to dismantle a drug trafficking ring transporting drugs from Europe to Vietnam via air cargo.

Nguyen Van Ba was arrested with the evidence.

Prior to this operation, authorities had noticed an increase in drug-related crimes, particularly the transportation of drugs from foreign countries into Vietnam through air cargo and postal services. They decided to take action and investigate these activities further.

On October 25, investigators identified a shipment of 16 packages of suspected drug-laced milk powder sent from Europe to Hanoi via Noi Bai International Airport. The shipment was then forwarded to Quynh Luu District, Nghe An Province, addressed to Nguyen Van Ba (born 1993, residing in Quynh Giang commune, Quynh Luu district).

Around 1 pm on the same day, the police intercepted Nguyen Van Ba while he was receiving the aforementioned 16 packages of “milk” in Cau Giat town, Quynh Luu district. Upon realizing the presence of the authorities, Nguyen Van Ba resisted fiercely. However, the functional forces successfully subdued and arrested him.

Authorities discovered 9.3 kg of ketamine hidden inside the milk packages sent from Europe.

Upon inspecting the person and the vehicle, the authorities discovered 9.3 kg of ketamine cleverly concealed within the 16 packages of milk. A subsequent emergency search of Nguyen Van Ba’s residence led to the seizure of an additional 600 ecstasy pills.

During his arrest and at the police station, Nguyen Van Ba provided false statements in an attempt to deny his crimes. However, faced with compelling evidence, he eventually confessed. According to his statement, the drugs were sent to him by a Vietnamese national living in Europe for distribution. However, he was caught red-handed by the police before he could carry out his plan.

The Nghe An Provincial Police are expanding their investigation to bring the case to trial in accordance with the law.
