On the morning of November 6, LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam held a ceremony to mark the progress of its project and the trial operation of its production lines at the LEGO factory in the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park III, Binh Duong province, after two years of construction.

In response to Binh Duong province’s investment promotion and attraction policies, the LEGO Group chose the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park III as the location for its project.

More than two years have passed since the company received its investment certificate (March 18, 2022) and exactly two years since the groundbreaking ceremony (November 3, 2022). LEGO has now started the trial operation of its production facility (phase 1 and phase 1A with a capacity of 30,000 tons of products per year).

Binh Duong Province Leaders Visit the LEGO Factory

LEGO’s toy factory in Binh Duong has a total investment of US$1 billion and is expected to employ more than 3,000 people. Notably, with a land area of up to 44.79 hectares, the company has room for expansion and future development.

This trial phase marks the beginning of a months-long testing and calibration process to ensure that, by the time it receives its operating license before the grand opening in early 2025, the factory meets the same stringent quality and safety standards as all other LEGO factories worldwide. The LEGO bricks produced when the factory officially opens will have an accuracy of up to one-tenth the thickness of a human hair.

Construction and equipment installation are about 90% complete. The company is ramping up recruitment and doubled its workforce in 2024, with plans to continue hiring in the coming years. A training program has also been implemented to expose hundreds of employees to various production processes, including plastic molding, packaging, and process optimization…

The factory also aims to be environmentally friendly and is one of LEGO’s most sustainable facilities, boasting over 12,400 rooftop solar panels with a capacity of 7.34 MWp, capable of powering approximately 1,270 households annually.

Jesper Hassellund Mikkelsen, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing for Asia at the LEGO Group and General Director of LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam, shared: “The testing and calibration of our plastic molding machines and packaging lines at the factory mark a significant milestone, indicating that the project is on track. This would not have been possible without the support of the central ministries and departments and Binh Duong province, as well as the partnership of our partners and dedicated employees.”

Mr. Vo Van Minh, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee of Binh Duong, affirmed that the provincial leaders highly appreciate and value LEGO’s project. This is a clear testament to the investors’ support for the province’s FDI attraction policies and serves as a great motivation for Binh Duong to accelerate and strengthen its administrative reform efforts and develop investment attraction policies to build trust and confidence for investors in the province and in Vietnam as a whole.

Mr. Vo Van Minh expressed his belief that the LEGO factory in Binh Duong will always operate efficiently and provide high-quality products to the domestic and international markets, meeting the most stringent standards for accuracy and perfection, and that the company will continue to invest and expand its production in Binh Duong.

Binh Duong province, along with its departments and sectors, will accompany and create all favorable conditions for the company, ensuring the efficient operation of the LEGO factory and resolving any difficulties and obstacles in a timely manner.
