The Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant plays a crucial role in flood control for the Red River Delta region and contributes to ensuring electricity supply for the country’s socio-economic development.
Reaching a milestone of 280 billion kWh highlights the efforts of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Company in successfully balancing flood control and efficient power generation.
From 8:20 pm on December 30, 1988 (when the first unit was synchronized with the national grid) to November 9, 2024, the Hoa Binh Hydropower Company has produced 280 billion kWh, marking 36 years of effective management and operation of the country’s strategic multi-purpose hydropower plant.
Since the completion of the entire plant in 1994, with 8 units and a total installed capacity of 1,920MW, the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant has significantly contributed to addressing Vietnam’s power shortage over an extended period. Even with the operation of the Son La Hydropower Plant, the power generation efficiency of the Hoa Binh plant continued to increase by 12-14% compared to the previous period. The electricity output consistently exceeded the design capacity, maintaining a level of 9-10 billion kWh/year.
On May 24, 2016, the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant achieved a remarkable milestone of 200 billion kWh, a feat unmatched by any other hydropower plant in Vietnam up to that point.
2018 marked another record-breaking year for the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant, with an electricity output of 12.29 billion kWh, surpassing the designed capacity (8.16 billion kWh) by 1.5 times. This was also the highest annual output achieved by the plant since its operation.
Presently, the Hoa Binh Hydropower Company is determined to intensify labor productivity, emphasizing innovation and the application of advanced science and technology. They are committed to replacing and upgrading mechanical turbine components and the 220kV oil cable system to enhance equipment reliability and performance, as well as improving the availability of the units to ensure safe and stable operation.
The Green Energy Giant: Celebrating 280 Billion kWh of Power Generation Excellence
On November 9, the Hoa Binh Hydropower Company achieved a significant milestone by producing 280 billion kWh of electricity. This remarkable feat underscores 36 years of efficient management, operation, and exploitation of the country’s strategic multi-purpose hydroelectric project.
