The Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant plays a crucial role in flood control for the Red River Delta region and contributes significantly to ensuring electricity supply for the country’s socio-economic development.
Reaching a milestone of 280 billion kWh highlights the efforts of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Company in successfully balancing flood control and efficient power generation.
From the moment the first generator was connected to the national grid on December 30, 1988, at 8:20 PM, to November 9, 2024, the Hoa Binh Hydropower Company has come a long way, marking 36 years of effective management and operation of this strategic, multi-purpose hydropower plant.
With the completion of the entire plant in 1994, consisting of 8 generators and a total installed capacity of 1,920MW, the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant significantly alleviated the power shortage in Vietnam for an extended period. Even with the commissioning of the Son La Hydropower Plant, the power generation efficiency of the Hoa Binh plant continued to increase by 12-14% compared to the previous period. The power output consistently exceeded the design specifications, maintaining an impressive level of 9-10 billion kWh per year.
On May 24, 2016, a historic milestone was achieved as the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant reached a cumulative power generation of 200 billion kWh, a feat never before attained by any hydropower plant in Vietnam.
2018 stood out as another record-breaking year for the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant, with an annual power output of 12.29 billion kWh, surpassing the designed capacity by 1.5 times (designed capacity: 8.16 billion kWh). This was the highest annual output the plant had achieved since its operation.
Presently, the Hoa Binh Hydropower Company is vigorously promoting labor emulation in production, emphasizing innovation and the application of advanced science and technology. They are committed to replacing and upgrading mechanical turbine components and the 220kV oil cable system to enhance equipment reliability and performance. Additionally, they focus on improving the availability of the generators to ensure safe and stable operations.
“Celebrating a Milestone: Hoa Binh Hydropower Company Reaches 280 Billion kWh of Power Generation”
On November 9, the Hoa Binh Hydropower Company achieved a significant milestone by producing 280 billion kWh of electricity. This remarkable feat celebrates 36 years of efficient management, operation, and exploitation of the country’s strategic multi-purpose hydroelectric project.
The Mighty Thác Bà Hydropower Plant: Unveiling the Power Within
The Thac Ba Hydropower Plant is a formidable power source located on the Chay River in the Yen Bai Province. With a capacity of 120 MW, this plant has been a pivotal energy provider for the region, thanks to its construction and ongoing operation by the Thac Ba Hydropower Joint Stock Company, with initial support from the Soviet Union (now the Russian Federation).
The Water Levels in Northern Reservoirs Are Decreasing; Hydropower Plants Reduce Flood Discharge Significantly
On the morning of September 13, the Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that water levels in the northern hydroelectric reservoirs were gradually decreasing. Speaking to Tien Phong Newspaper, representatives of hydropower companies confirmed that they had significantly reduced the discharge volume over the past 24 hours.
