The Dam Nha Mac interchange, located in Quang Yen town, is one of the key transportation projects in Quang Ninh province, offering a direct connection to the Ha Long – Hai Phong expressway. With nearly 80% of the project’s scope already completed, this interchange promises to be a strategic transportation hub.

Spanning an area of 83.4 hectares and a length of over 8 kilometers, this project has received an investment of over 760 billion VND from the provincial budget. It connects the Duong Ven Song Quang Yen – Dong Trieu road to the Ha Long – Hai Phong expressway at Km20+050, just 600 meters away from the Bach Dang Bridge toll station. The scope of work for the expressway connection is 1.57 kilometers long. In the image, the connecting branches have been asphalted and are almost complete.

Designed as a fully-fledged cloverleaf interchange with eight branching ramps, this project has a total length of over 8 kilometers and is classified as a grade-II transportation project. The expressway above the interchange has a designed speed of 100 km/h, while the road below meets high-quality standards with eight lanes and a speed limit of 80 km/h.

The main components of the project include widening the Ha Long – Hai Phong expressway and its connecting ramps to 8.25 meters. The connecting branches to the Duong Ven Song road are designed with eight lanes and a road width of 46.5 meters. Other branches feature two lanes with a width of 11.75 meters. The project also involves improving the expressway tunnel, constructing a drainage system, installing lighting, and implementing various traffic safety measures.

The project commenced in September 2020 and was initially scheduled for completion in July 2022. However, due to various construction challenges, including land-use conversion issues involving mangrove forests and community ponds, the project timeline had to be extended. It wasn’t until the end of 2021 that the legal procedures were finalized, and the contractor could access the construction site, resulting in a 16-month delay. Upon completion, the Dam Nha Mac interchange, together with the Duong Ven Song road, will establish a convenient network connecting the western industrial and urban areas of Quang Ninh to the Ha Long – Hai Phong – Hanoi expressway, significantly contributing to the economic development of the coastal region of Quang Yen.
