Construction of the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway, stretching nearly 54km, commenced in mid-June 2023. With a scale of 4-6 lanes, the project boasts a total investment of over VND 17,800 billion.

The first component project, spanning 16km, is under the management of Dong Nai Province, while the second component, measuring 18.2km, is supervised by the Ministry of Transport. Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province takes charge of the third component project, which is 19.5km long and has a total investment of nearly VND 5,000 billion.

The third component of the expressway, traversing Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province, starts at Km34+200, connecting to the second component in Dong Nai Province, and ends at Km53+700, intersecting with National Highway 56 – the bypass road of Ba Ria City.

The photo showcases the starting point of the third component project, adjacent to the two-door tunnel on Road 7 of Phuoc Binh, linking Dong Nai and Ba Ria – Vung Tau Provinces. This section features four complete lanes, two emergency lanes, and a road width ranging from 24.75 to 27 meters.

The project entails land clearance to accommodate the full expressway width of six lanes, averaging about 67 meters. The construction of this component is undertaken by a joint venture of contractors, including Son Hai Group Joint Stock Company, 479 Hoa Binh Joint Stock Company, and 703 Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company.

As observed by VietNamNet’s reporters on the afternoon of November 15, hundreds of workers, along with numerous pieces of equipment and mechanical vehicles, were diligently working on the construction of bridges, tunnels, and road pavement amid the scorching heat.

Workers are reinforcing the dividing iron bars to prevent overflow during asphalt paving. The first layer of asphalt is laid more than 10cm high.

Near the end of the intersection with National Highway 56 in Ba Ria City, the first semi-hollow asphalt slabs are being laid by 703 Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company. From above, the paved road, nestled amidst rice fields, presents a stunning sight.

Along the entire route, there are 11 bridges and one tunnel for commuters, constructed simultaneously by the three contractors with over 15 construction sites. The workforce comprises approximately 225 pieces of equipment and 415 personnel. Thus far, the cumulative completed work volume has reached about 50%, and the contract construction value stands at roughly 42%. The consecutive images depict the Dinh River Bridge, the tunnel, and the Suoi Nhum Bridge.

According to the latest report from the Project Management Board of the Cai Mep – Thi Vai Port Area (the investor), the roadbed organic layer has been completed; the K95 and K98 soil filling and crushed stone base course are substantially finished; 79 out of 80 road culverts are in place; and 0.8 out of 19.5km of semi-hollow asphalt concrete has been laid.

The 14.2km section constructed by Son Hai Group Joint Stock Company is expected to commence asphalt paving in the next few days. Prior to this, a tack coat was applied to this stretch.

The investor affirmed that the construction of the third component project of the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway is progressing as scheduled. The target is to achieve technical completion by April 30, 2025, and finish construction, conduct acceptance, and open to traffic by September 2025.

As per the plan, the main bridges will be fundamentally completed by 2024, while the remaining bridges will have their piers and abutments constructed. Regarding the roadwork, the semi-hollow asphalt concrete paving is anticipated to reach 15 out of 19.5km.

While the third component project of the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway is progressing smoothly, the other two component projects traversing Dong Nai Province, with a total length of 34km, are facing delays due to land clearance issues and a shortage of filling materials.
