At its meeting on October 24, 2024, the National Assembly Standing Committee of the 15th tenure adopted a resolution on the rearrangement of administrative units at the communal and district levels in Thanh Hoa province for the 2023-2025 period.
Accordingly, the entire natural area of 82.87 square kilometers and a population of 101,272 people of Dong Son district will be merged into Thanh Hoa city.
After the merger, Thanh Hoa city will cover a natural area of 228.22 square kilometers and a population of 615,106 people.
Thanh Hoa city borders Sam Son city and the districts of Hoang Hoa, Nong Cong, Quang Xuong, Thieu Hoa, and Trieu Son.
The resolution also rearranges administrative units at the communal level in Thanh Hoa city. Accordingly, Rung Thong ward is established on the basis of the entire natural area of 5.96 square kilometers and a population of 11,918 people of Rung Thong town.
Rung Thong ward borders the wards of Dong Linh, Dong Tan, and Dong Thinh, and the communes of Dong Khe, Dong Tien, and Dong Thanh.
Dong Thinh ward is established on the basis of the entire natural area of 4.38 square kilometers and a population of 7,630 people of Dong Thinh commune. Dong Thinh ward borders the wards of Dong Tan, Rung Thong, and the communes of Dong Khe, Dong Minh, Dong Van, and Dong Yen.
Hoang Quang ward is established on the basis of the entire natural area of 6.3 square kilometers and a population of 8,954 people of Hoang Quang commune. Hoang Quang ward borders the wards of Dong Hai, Hoang Dai, Long Anh, Nam Ngang, Quang Hung, and Hoang Hoa district.
Hoang Dai ward is established on the basis of the entire natural area of 4.67 square kilometers and a population of 7,491 people of Hoang Dai commune. Hoang Dai ward borders the wards of Hoang Quang, Quang Hung, and Hoang Hoa district.
The entire natural area of 0.87 square kilometers and a population of 16,152 people of Tan Son ward are merged into Phu Son ward. After the merger, Phu Son ward covers a natural area of 2.7 square kilometers and a population of 33,359 people.
Phu Son ward borders the wards of An Hung, Ba Dinh, Dien Bien, Dong Linh, Dong Tan, Dong Tho, Dong Ve, Lam Son, and Ngoc Trao.
After the rearrangement, Thanh Hoa city will have 47 administrative units at the communal level
, including 33 wards: An Hung, Ba Dinh, Dien Bien, Dong Cuong, Dong Hai, Dong Huong, Dong Linh, Dong Son, Dong Tan, Dong Thinh, Dong Tho, Dong Ve, Ham Rong, Hoang Dai, Hoang Quang, Lam Son, Long Anh, Nam Ngang, Ngoc Trao, Phu Son, Quang Cat, Quang Dong, Quang Hung, Quang Phu, Quang Tam, Quang Thanh, Quang Thang, Quang Thinh, Tao Xuyen, Thieu Duong, Thieu Khanh, Truong Thi, and Rung Thong; and 14 communes: Dong Hoa, Dong Hoang, Dong Khe, Dong Minh, Dong Nam, Dong Ninh, Dong Phu, Dong Quang, Dong Thanh, Dong Tien, Dong Van, Dong Yen, Dong Vinh, and Thieu Van.
The People’s Court of Dong Son district, Thanh Hoa province, and the People’s Procuracy of Dong Son district, Thanh Hoa province, are dissolved.
The People’s Court and People’s Procuracy of Thanh Hoa city, Thanh Hoa province, are responsible for succeeding the tasks and powers of the People’s Court and People’s Procuracy of Dong Son district, Thanh Hoa province, in accordance with the law.
This resolution takes effect from January 1, 2025.
Expanding Thanh Hoa City is of Significant Importance
The leadership of Thanh Hoa province emphasized the significance of merging Dong Son district into Thanh Hoa city and establishing new wards within the city. They believe that this marks a new milestone and opens up opportunities for the city’s robust and comprehensive development in the future, as reported by Thanh Hoa Television.
According to a report on the official website of Thanh Hoa city, in the first half of 2024, the local economy continued to grow, with many indicators increasing compared to the same period last year. These include an 18.9% rise in export value and a 35% increase in state budget revenue. The city also exceeded the provincial plan for land accumulation for large-scale agricultural production.
During this period, 580 new enterprises were established, bringing the total number of operating enterprises in the city to 9,180.
Tourism activities were vibrant, benefiting from major cultural events held in the country, province, and city. The number of tourists, visitors, and local residents participating in these events was estimated at 405,000, a 55.76% increase compared to the same period last year. Transportation services also developed strongly, meeting the travel demands of the people.
Thanh Hoa city is focusing on accelerating key projects in the area, such as the construction of the Northeastern Industrial Cluster and the Memorial Park for teachers and students who perished in the Ma River dyke in Nam Ngang ward.
