The construction of Cau Tran Hung Dao is part of the Hanoi Capital Transport
Master Plan until 2030, with a vision towards 2050. It is one of the 18
road projects that will cross the Red River in the Hanoi area.

Cau Tran Hung Dao is strategically located between Chuong Duong Bridge and
Vinh Tuy Bridge. On the central city side, the bridge’s foundation is
planned at the intersection of Tran Hung Dao and Tran Thanh Tong streets.
On the Long Bien side, it will end at the intersection with National Route
5A (Nguyen Van Linh Street).

According to the project’s executing agency, the total land area dedicated
to the project is approximately 75.5 hectares. The bridge will be
constructed as a permanent structure with six lanes for motor vehicles,
two lanes for bicycles, and two lanes for pedestrians, designed for a
speed of 80 km/h.

The branch bridges within the interchange have widths ranging from 7 to 9
meters. The interchanges along the route are fully invested in and
include: the interchange in the Hoan Kiem district (connecting with the
dike road, Tran Hung Dao Street), the intersection with Co Linh Road,
the intersection with Nguyen Son Street, and the intersection with
Nguyen Van Linh Street.

The technical infrastructure, traffic organization, and greenery will be
synchronously invested in to ensure compliance with current standards and
norms.

The Tran Hung Dao Bridge construction project has one end in Hoan Kiem and
Hai Ba Trung districts and the other in Long Bien district.

The project has a total investment of over VND 16,300 billion, managed by
the Hanoi City Transport Construction Investment Project Management
Board. According to the selected plan, the main bridge will be 900
meters long, consisting of six spans, with a total length of about 5.6
kilometers, including the bridge and the approach roads.

According to the plan, the preparation for the investment in the
construction of Tran Hung Dao Bridge will take place in 2023-2024, with
construction scheduled for 2025-2027 and expected completion in
2027.

The approved plan ensures that the transportation system is designed to
connect with all directions without affecting existing structures at the
bridge approach.

To ensure feasibility, the Project Management Board has proposed to the
city to use public investment capital for the implementation of
component 1 of the project.

Component 2 will be implemented under a PPP (Public-Private Partnership)
contract, specifically a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) contract, with
50% of the local budget and included in the list of investment
attraction projects in the city.

Previously, the Hanoi City Transport Construction Investment Project
Management Board organized an architectural design contest for the Tran
Hung Dao Bridge. The winning design, with the code THD12, envisioned a
new iconic bridge for Hanoi’s center, featuring a double-arch
structure creating an infinite symbol. This design was chosen for
development.

Once completed, this project will contribute to the completion of the
transport infrastructure as per the master plan, reducing congestion, and
promoting production, business, and the development of urban areas in the
region, thereby boosting the socio-economic development of the capital.

The structure connects the city center (Hoan Kiem district) to Long Bien
district and has been approved by the Hanoi People’s Committee with a
double-arch design, creating an infinite symbol. The design was created
by a consortium of NIWA Architecture Co., Ltd., Chodai & Kiso-Jiban
Vietnam Co., Ltd., Chodai Co., Ltd., and NH Village Architecture Co.,
Ltd., earning the highest score among the architectural competition
entries for the bridge.

Anxiously Reviving the North’s Largest Bonsai Village
“I have to immediately rehabilitate the land and borrow capital for reproduction. The people of Phung Cong will rise again, and the fields will be green,” said Nguyen Thi Quyen determinedly. However, like many other residents of Phung Cong, Sister Quyen is anxious and worried as the dike has been destroyed for a real estate project, and the floods will inevitably return one day…
The Capital’s Newest Infrastructure Project: Construction of the Tu Lien and Tran Hung Dao Bridges to Commence Soon
The Hanoi People’s Committee has approved the construction of two new bridges over the Red River: the Tu Lien and Tran Hung Dao bridges. This development comes in response to the existing bridges’ inadequate capacity and strength to handle the city’s traffic demands. The new bridges will not only enhance connectivity but also ensure safer and more efficient travel across the river, addressing the concerns of overloaded bridges in the area.
