Mr. Vincent Clerc, CEO of Maersk Group, welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha and shared that their first ship arrived in Vietnam in 1923. Maersk has since continued to invest in the country’s maritime industry, building on their over 100-year tradition.
Maersk has recognized the vast potential and opportunities in Vietnam and is keen to further contribute to its development, especially regarding deep-water container port and strategic logistics investments.
“Maersk’s projects will support Vietnamese businesses in their import and export activities, connecting “commodity lines” and industrial parks nationwide”, said Mr. Vincent Clerc. He affirmed their strong commitment to green maritime development, utilizing green energy sources, and achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. The group also focuses on digital transformation and automation in the operation of smart ports.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha affirmed that as a maritime nation, Vietnam prioritizes the blue economy, with a particular emphasis on the port system for national defense, security, and international maritime routes. Additionally, the country’s economy is deeply integrated with the global economy.
“Maersk’s strategy aligns with Vietnam’s choice of green and net-zero development, as well as the construction of large-capacity port and logistic infrastructure, and the building of a maritime fleet”, said the Deputy Prime Minister. He confirmed that Vietnam prioritizes experienced and innovative groups like Maersk as strategic partners in investing, constructing, and operating major ports such as Cai Mep, Lach Huyen, and Lien Chieu. This partnership supports the trend of green and digital transformation and the development of smart and eco-friendly ports, ensuring competitive energy efficiency, services, and transportation costs.
The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that Maersk closely cooperate with Vietnamese businesses and partners to propose solutions to challenges, creating a favorable environment for foreign businesses and investors in the fields of maritime and logistics, with a spirit of “harmonious benefits and shared risks”. He emphasized that “when investing in Vietnam, you become a Vietnamese business”.
