On November 20th, 2024, the People’s Committee of Hai Phong City announced that in the first quarter of 2025, they will submit the Tan Vu – Lach Huyen 2 Bridge project for the Prime Minister’s approval.

Once the Tan Vu – Lach Huyen 2 Bridge project is approved, Hai Phong City will coordinate with relevant agencies to prepare for investment in 2025-2026 and commence construction in the 2026-2030 period.

The Tan Vu – Lach Huyen 2 Bridge project is estimated to cost approximately VND 8,711 billion. This includes a loan of over VND 6,455 billion from the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) of Korea and a local budget counterpart of over VND 2,255 billion.

As planned, the Tan Vu – Lach Huyen 2 Bridge will be located to the left of the existing bridge, with a total length of 5.44 km and a 16-meter-wide span over the Nam Trieu sea gate. This bridge will connect Hai An District to Cat Hai Island (Cat Hai District).

The Tan Vu – Lach Huyen 2 Bridge will have two approach roads with a total length of 9.86 km. The approach road in Hai An District will be approximately 4.2 km long, while the one in Cat Hai District will be about 5.66 km long.

The approach roads will be constructed in phases, with a road width of 51 meters (including 6 lanes for motor vehicles and 4 mixed lanes).

The project will also include the construction of 3 grade-separated intersections along the approach roads. Hai Phong City will carry out land clearance for the approach roads according to the approved plan, with a width of 68 meters.

Previously, in September 2017, the Tan Vu – Lach Huyen sea-crossing bridge, connecting the mainland in Hai An District to Cat Hai Island (Cat Hai District), was opened to traffic.

The Tan Vu – Lach Huyen Bridge has a total length of 15.63 km, with the main bridge spanning 5.44 km, making it the longest sea-crossing bridge in Vietnam.

The Tan Vu – Lach Huyen sea-crossing bridge has improved transportation between Hai Phong’s mainland and Cat Hai Island, replacing the old sea ferry service.

Thanks to this bridge, several key projects have been established on Cat Hai Island, including the Vinfast Automobile Factory Complex and the Cat Ba Cable Car.

However, with the development of tourism on Cat Ba Island and industrial projects on Cat Hai Island, the country’s longest sea-crossing bridge has become congested. As a result, Hai Phong City has proposed the construction of the Tan Vu – Lach Huyen 2 Bridge.

According to the approved Hai Phong City Master Plan: The Tan Vu – Lach Huyen 2 Bridge and Road project is listed as one of the priority investments in the city during the 2021-2030 period.
