Speaking on this issue, Ms. Tran Kim Nga, Director of External Affairs of MM Mega Market (Vietnam), shared the challenges of recycling: “It takes time and resources from multiple parties to promote information, raise community awareness about waste sorting at the source, and encourage reuse and recycling. Building a comprehensive collection and sorting system so that every plastic bottle, aluminum can, milk carton, etc., gets a new lease of life is no easy feat.”

MM Mega Market has long been a pioneer in various environmental initiatives, from the “Say No to Plastic Bags” campaign, which encourages the use of reusable and biodegradable shopping bags, to providing cardboard boxes for packaging and installing solar roof systems, as well as adopting energy-efficient solutions.

At MM Mega Market An Phu, customers can easily find areas for waste collection, sorting, and recycling, partnering with Vietnam Recycling Organization for electronics, Tetra Pak for cardboard boxes, TBC-Ball for used aluminum cans, Alta Group for plastic bottles, and O-I BJC for glass bottle recycling.

“Raising consumer awareness and fostering a habit of waste sorting during shopping is a long-term endeavor,” added Ms. Tran Kim Nga. “MM Mega Market aims to be a leading retailer in developing the most comprehensive waste collection and sorting system at the source, effectively contributing to the recycling loop, reducing waste, and preventing soil and groundwater pollution.”

As part of its commitment to creating a waste recycling loop, MMVN, together with its suppliers and partners, organized a three-day event, “Junk in Joy out – Clean up the Environment, Get Joyful Gifts,” from November 29 to December 1 at MM Mega Market An Phu, District 2. We believe this event will help spread the habit of waste sorting and contribute to intelligent waste recycling and treatment in the circular economy.

MMVN’s representative, Mr. Nguyen Thai Tuan Anh, Vice Chairman of An Phu Ward People’s Committee, and Ms. Supakan Yodchun, Director of the Thailand Tourism Authority’s Representative Office in Vietnam, along with partners, encourage everyone to take action.

The “Junk in Joy out” event featured 16 experiential booths from MM Mega Market’s partners, along with recycling activities such as decorating glass and plastic bottles, offering a meaningful experience and motivating a change in consumption habits and community awareness about recycling.
