India’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer, Ola Electric, has expanded its portfolio with the launch of its all-new electric scooter, the Ola Gig. The scooter will be offered in two variants, with prices ranging from INR 39,999 to INR 49,999 (approximately USD 1,100 to USD 1,400).
According to the company, the Ola Gig is designed not just for daily commuting but also for commercial use. For commercial purposes and cargo transportation, the Ola Gig features a simple design with a large rear carrier. Meanwhile, the Gig+ variant stands out with the addition of surround panels. Both versions of the Ola Gig come with 12-inch wheels.
As these scooters are intended for commercial use, they do not feature a conventional instrument cluster. Instead, they are equipped with a QR code scanner, allowing users to unlock the scooter by scanning the code with the Ola app on their mobile phones.
The Ola Gig, being affordably priced, offers relatively simple equipment. It features drum brakes on both the front and rear wheels, along with conventional telescopic front forks and dual-shock absorbers at the rear for suspension.
Powering the Ola Gig is a 250-watt electric motor, enabling it to reach a top speed of 25 km/h. On the other hand, the Gig+ is equipped with a more powerful 1.5 kW motor, allowing it to attain a maximum speed of 45 km/h.
According to the manufacturer, both the Ola Gig and Gig+ are powered by a removable 1.5 kWh battery pack. Users have the option to utilize two battery packs on the Gig+ variant.
With a single battery, the Gig offers a range of 112 kilometers, while the Gig+ provides a range of 81 kilometers or 157 kilometers, depending on the number of batteries used.
