While competitors have been launching a range of foldable smartphones in recent years, Apple has remained steadfast in its strategy of releasing monolithic iPhones. However, recent reports suggest that Apple is nearing completion of its first foldable iPhone.

TechRadar cites renowned leak expert yeux1122, who claims that Apple has officially entered the development phase of a foldable iPhone in collaboration with leading display manufacturers. This further solidifies previous speculations about Apple’s serious investment in the foldable iPhone lineup.

Apple is reportedly developing a foldable iPhone with the code name ‘V68’, expected to feature a clamshell design similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola’s Razr.

One of the biggest challenges Apple faces is addressing the screen crease when the device is folded. However, Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone market could be a driving force for the exceptional development of this product category.

Recently, The Information reported that Apple is working on a foldable iPhone with the code name ‘V68’. This device is expected to feature a clamshell design, similar to the Galaxy Z Flip by Samsung and the Razr by Motorola.

The Information predicts that the first foldable iPhone could be launched as early as 2026, while The Elec speculates that Apple might opt for a 2027 release, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the iPhone’s debut and the 10th anniversary of the first iPhone featuring an OLED display.

Predictions suggest that the first foldable iPhone could be launched as early as 2026.

According to a report by Counterpoint Research in May, the global market for foldable phones grew by 49% in the first quarter compared to the same period last year, marking the highest growth rate in six quarters.

Although the official launch date remains a mystery, Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone arena promises to spark a revolution in the smartphone industry, akin to what the first-generation iPhone achieved.

And before the foldable iPhones arrive, iPhone enthusiasts can look forward to experiencing the new AI and camera features of the iPhone 16. This will be followed by the iPhone 17, rumored to be an ultra-thin model, slated for release in 2025.
