According to the Joint Stock Railway Transport Company, after nearly 2 months of the railway sector selling Tet tickets for the Lunar New Year of 2025, nearly 125,000 tickets have been sold so far.
Sharing with the press, Ms. Tran Thi Hang (30 years old, from Phu Yen) said that her family had planned to leave Ho Chi Minh City on the 26th of the last month of the lunar calendar to return to her hometown. However, this year, the railway sector sold tickets earlier than usual, about 1 month earlier, and the train from Ho Chi Minh City to Tuy Hoa on the 26th of the last month was sold out very early. As a result, her family had to choose to buy bus tickets to return to their hometown for Tet this year.

According to a representative of the Joint Stock Railway Transport Company, as in previous years, the demand for travel during the peak Tet holiday to the central provinces, cities, and tourist destinations is always high. To meet the travel needs of passengers, from the 29th of the last month to the 3rd of the first month of the lunar new year, the company also organizes trains to serve people going on spring outings such as Hanoi – Vinh, Hanoi – Dong Hoi, Saigon – Nha Trang…
An airline ticket agent in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, said that there are no cheap tickets during Tet. Tickets on low-demand days are not scarce, but they are still difficult to buy, even scarce during peak Tet days and at peak hours, especially on long-distance routes from the South to the North before Tet and from the North to the South after Tet.
No shortage of passenger cars
Talking to Tien Phong Newspaper, Mr. Bui Hoa An, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, affirmed: “There will be no shortage of passenger cars to serve the travel needs of the people during this Tet holiday.”
According to the leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, it is expected that the number of passengers traveling during Tet 2025 will increase by about 20% compared to last year. From the 20th of the last month to the 10th of the first month of the lunar new year, it is expected to serve an average of 94,000 passengers through inter-provincial bus stations with more than 6,500 trips (an increase of about 6 – 10% compared to the same period) and an increase of 50% compared to normal days.
Mr. An said that the expressways connecting provinces with Ho Chi Minh City have been put into use, shortening the transportation time. Along with that, train, bus, and plane tickets for Tet have been sold early through electronic channels, so transport units have proactively hired more passenger cars to serve the people if needed. The capacity to serve at the stations on the inter-provincial fixed transport routes of the city currently has more than 4,800 vehicles, equivalent to nearly 164,000 seats; contracted cars are nearly 18,000 vehicles corresponding to 246,000 seats, which are additional sources for transport units by route when needed. The reception capacity of the stations is currently more than 19,000 vehicles per day.
The Department of Transport said that major stations such as Mien Dong Bus Station, Mien Tay Bus Station, Mien Dong (new) Bus Station, An Suong Bus Station, and Nga Tu Ga Bus Station have announced the sale of bus tickets on their websites. Therefore, people can proactively buy tickets, ensuring convenience and safety. The leaders of the Department said that, according to the Management Board of Export Processing Zones – Industrial Parks of Ho Chi Minh City, this year, there will be some units that will let workers and employees go on Tet holiday earlier. Therefore, in the peak period before the Tet holiday, a part of the workers has returned to their hometown, which is also a factor in reducing the pressure on passenger transport during this Tet holiday.
