The project launch ceremony is one of many activities under the public-private partnership (PPP) program between the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), the Institute of Soils and Fertilizers, and Yara Vietnam LLC as expressed through the 2024–2026 Memorandum of Cooperation.
The Memorandum affirms the common commitment of the parties to promote sustainable agricultural development in Vietnam. Together, they will develop sustainable crop cultivation models, prioritizing the application of appropriate nutritional management solutions such as fertilizing according to the “5Rs” principle and effectively combining organic and mineral fertilizers.
Piloting new cultivation models is also emphasized, starting with a sustainable durian production model in Dak Lak province, with subsequent consideration for expansion to other key crops in the Central Highlands and nationwide.
The project, “Building a Model of Using Organic Fertilizers in Sustainable Durian Production,” is being implemented in Cu M’gar district, Dak Lak province. Yara Vietnam LLC plays a role in providing sustainable nutritional solutions for crops, combining organic and mineral fertilizers.
In this project, Yara Vietnam LLC coordinates with the Plant Protection Department and the Institute of Soils and Fertilizers to implement a comparative model alongside traditional local cultivation and crop nutrition management methods.
The project is expected to bring practical benefits to multiple stakeholders. For policymakers, it is a concrete step toward implementing policies supporting sustainable agricultural development and creating a precedent for modern cultivation models in the future. For durian farmers in Dak Lak, the project provides access to advanced agricultural knowledge and techniques, helping them become more confident in changing their farming habits. Additionally, the project affirms the pioneering role of Yara Vietnam LLC in providing comprehensive solutions for soil health and crop nutrition.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nghiem Quang Tuan, Deputy Director of the Plant Protection Department, emphasized the project’s importance in realizing the “Action Plan for the Development of Organic Fertilizer Production and Use until 2030, with a vision toward 2050” and the “Action Plan for Soil Health Improvement and Crop Nutrition Management until 2030, with a vision toward 2050.”
Mr. Tuan also highlighted that the collaboration with Yara Vietnam under the 2024–2026 Memorandum of Cooperation aligns with the industry’s shared goal of promoting regenerative agriculture. This includes focusing on soil health, using organic fertilizers alongside inorganic ones in sustainable agricultural production, and striving to make Vietnam one of the leading countries in the region in soil health and crop nutrition management capacity and effectiveness by 2030.
Ms. Tran Ngoc Thanh Truc, General Director of Yara Vietnam LLC, shared, “As a leading multinational corporation in fertilizer production technology and applications for sustainable agricultural development, Yara Vietnam LLC will enhance training activities to empower farmers and support knowledge sharing among agricultural officials regarding cultivation techniques, soil health management, and crop nutrition.”
Ms. Truc further added that, on a global scale, Yara is currently focused on the goal of “Creating a Green Environment for Sustainable Food Future” with three main priorities: climate neutrality, regenerative agriculture, and prosperity. In Vietnam, Yara places a particular emphasis on “Regenerative Agriculture” with solutions to protect and improve soil health, enhance biodiversity, and optimize water resources. Their organic and mineral fertilizer products are designed to provide balanced nutrition, improve soil structure, and reduce environmental impact. Yara also utilizes soil health analysis technology to offer precise fertilizer recommendations for different crops and regions, helping farmers optimize costs, reduce excess fertilizer usage, protect the environment, and increase crop yields and quality.
Regarding “Prosperity,” Yara supports farmers in accessing optimal crop nutrition solutions, combined with scientific and modern technology, to enhance productivity and the quality of agricultural products, thereby improving farmers’ incomes and quality of life.
The project, “Model of Organic Fertilizers in Sustainable Durian Production,” not only focuses on immediate cultivation efficiency but also lays the foundation for significant steps forward in Vietnam’s agricultural sector. With the close cooperation between relevant parties, this model is expected to be replicated, contributing to shaping a sustainable agricultural future not only in Dak Lak but also nationwide.
