There has been a recent development in the case of a customer suing the XSKT Thua Thien – Hue Company for refusing to pay out the jackpot prize of 2 billion VND for a damaged lottery ticket. Mr. Le Trung Phuoc, Director of the XSKT Thua Thien – Hue Company, has shared that the case is now being handled by the People’s Court of Hue City.

In an interview with Thanh Nien newspaper, Mr. Phuoc stated that the company would await the court’s decision and comply with the ruling if the ticket is deemed eligible for the prize money.

Mr. Phuoc further explained that according to Circular No. 75/2013/TT-BTC of the Ministry of Finance, which provides detailed guidance on lottery business operations, the company had to deny the payout as the winning ticket was torn and the missing piece could not be located.

While the director expressed the company’s empathy and desire to pay out the winner, he emphasized the need to adhere to the regulations.

On the other hand, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ng. (53 years old, from Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province) – the plaintiff in the case against the XSKT Thua Thien – Hue Company, is currently requesting the People’s Court of Hue City to intervene and obtain the results of the forensic examination conducted by the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police on the denied winning ticket to be used as evidence in court.

Ms. Ng. revealed that she has been approached by multiple law firms offering pro bono legal advice, and she is considering whether to hire a lawyer or accept the free support. She expressed her determination to see the lawsuit through to the end.

As previously reported, Ms. Ng. purchased two lottery tickets from the XSKT Thua Thien – Hue Company on October 14 and won two prizes: a special consolation prize of 50 million VND and the jackpot prize of 2 billion VND. Both tickets were slightly damaged due to rain exposure, but the company only agreed to pay out the 50 million VND prize, denying the jackpot claim.

Despite the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police’s forensic examination concluding that the ticket in question was genuine and had not been tampered with, the XSKT Thua Thien – Hue Company maintained their decision not to pay out the prize money, stating that the examination result was only for reference.
